The first of the planned expansion packs for a strategy game developed by Creative Assembly. The expansion is set in the years 58-51 BC and focuses on the titular figure's fight against Gallic tribes. Shortening the time period encompassed by the game resulted in a change to the turn system - instead of 12 months, one turn lasts here 2 weeks. Consequently, seasonal division returns, randomly affecting the course of the playthrough.

Total War: Rome II - Caesar in Gaul Description
Total War: Rome II – Caesar in Gaul for PC is an expansion pack for a popular RTS game developed by Creative Assembly. Julius Caesar's fight against Gallic tribes is the general theme here. The expansion introduces many novelties.
Mechanics
Total War: Rome II – Caesar in Gaul for PC is set in the years 58-51 BC. This shorter time period results in changes applied to the system of turns. Instead of one lasting for 12 months, each turn lasts here for 2 weeks, which also brings seasonal division back to the game. This randomly affects the course of the playthrough – for instance, when fall comes late, the overall yields can be higher; a dry summer on the other hand, reduces the efficiency of food production. The events take place on an extended map of Gaul, which is divided into 18 provinces.
Among the more important novelties, are new playable factions, which can also be chosen used in the core version of Total War: Rome II. The new factions included are the Nervii (Belgian barbarians), the Arverni (Gallic barbarians) and the Suebi (Germanic barbarians). Apart from that, the expansion brings new units, such as Sword Followers, Veteran Spears, Galatian Legionaries, Chosen Swordsmen or Fierce Swords.
The mechanics behind the challenges were also altered – those were turned into civil wars. Here, the player assumes control over Gallic tribes in order to face the powers of Rome. The situation is reversible however, thus one can also play as Julius Caesar. The expansion adds a new historical encounter as well – the Battle of Alesia. When playing the battle as the Romans, the player's goal is to sustain the siege of a Gallic keep defended by Vercingetorix.
Total War: Rome II - Caesar in Gaul for PC places a greater emphasis on the in-game characters, as compared to the core game. Particular factions are accompanied by historical figures, such as Julius Caesar or Marcus Antonius. Additionally, each of the playable nations has its leader as well, who serves the role of the player's avatar during the campaign.
