On this page of the guide to the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening you will find a description of every item available in the game. To make it easier for you we divided this chapter into the following sections: equipment, trading sequence, other items, keys, dungeon items and instruments.
Equipment
Shield - received after talking to Tarin. Also available in the store at Mabe Village for 20 rupees. | |
Sword - found in the ocean by the beach of Toronbo Shores. | |
Magic powder - first received from the Witch after bringing her the Sleepy Toadstool. It can also be won at the Trendy Game at Mabe Village, or found while searching the dungeons. It can be used to light torches, defeat enemies, and remove the spell put on Tarin after eating a toadstool. | |
Roc's Feather - found inside the Tail Cave. It allows you to jump. | |
Power Bracelet - found inside the Bottle Grotto. It allows you to lift or move heavy stuff. | |
Bombs - can be bought in the store at Mabe Village or found while searching the dungeons or caves. Bombs can be used to destroy cracked walls and certain objects or defeat certain enemies. Once planted bomb can be picked up and thrown again. Your character can't be hurt by his bombs, but he can be damaged by bombs used by enemies. If equipped with a Bow, you can fire a Bomb Arrow. | |
Shovel - purchased from the shop in Mabe Village for 200 rupees. | |
Secret Medicine - purchased from Tracy in Koholint Prairie at varying prices. It can also be found inside the final three dungeons. Automatically renews full life after losing all hearts. Only one secret medicine can be carried at a time. | |
Pegasus Boots - found inside the Key Cavern. When combined with the Roc's Feather can increase your jump distance. It can be used for dash attack at enemies, to cut through grass, destroy crystal rocks or to hit into trees. | |
Ocarina - found in the Dream Shrine. | |
Seashell Sensor - can be obtained as a reward for collecting 15 Secret Seashells in the Seashell Mansion. This will let you know when there's a seashell close by. | |
Flippers - found in the Angler's Tunnel. Allow you to swim and dive underwater. By diving underwater, you can avoid attacks from enemies while swimming. | |
Jar - can be caught during the fishing mini-game, received from the Pink Ghost after helping him or received from Dampe after completing his "Heart Shortage" challenge. A jar can be used to catch little fairy that can be found at Fairy Fountains scattered around Koholint Island. Minibosses and selected powerful enemies in dungeons also drop fairies when defeated. Wave a jar next to the fluttering fairies to seal them inside. | |
Bow - purchased from the store at Mable Village for 980 rupees. Available after buying the Shovel. | |
Hookshot - found inside the Catfish's Maw. | |
Magnifying Lens - found inside a cave beneath the Mermaid Statue in Martha's Bay. It allows you to read the book in Mabe Village Library. This will give you all the details of finding the right chamber in the Wind Fish's Egg. It also allows you to see Zora in a house in Animal Village who will tell you how to find Goriya. | |
Boomerang - can be obtained by completing the trading sequence and finally getting the Magnifying Lens. Visit Goriya at the Toronbo Shores who will give you the boomerang in exchange for one of your items. The boomerang can be used to stun and defeat enemies, hit crystals, collect items from a distance, and cut bushes. It is also the only weapon able to defeat Sparks. | |
More Powerful Bracelet - found in the Face Shrine. It allows you to lift heavier objects, such as elephant statues. | |
Mirror Shield - found in Eagle's Tower. Protect from fire, wind, and lasers. | |
Koholint Sword - obtained as a reward in the Seashell Mansion for collecting 20 secret seashells. It can fire sword beams at full health. | |
Magic Rod - found in Turtle Rock. Use it as a weapon or to melt ice cubes. |
Trade sequence
The trading sequence is a quest that must be completed to receive the Magnifying Lens, an item necessary to read a book in the Mabe Library and find a way in the Wind Fish's Egg.
Yoshi Doll - the first item in the game's trading sequence. Won as a prize from the Trendy Game in Mabe Village. Should be handed over to Mamsha from Mabe Village (house with two pairs of doors on a hill) in exchange for Ribbon. | |
Ribbon - can be given to CiaoCiao from the doghouse next to Madame MeowMeow's house in Mabe Village, in exchange for Dog Food. | |
Dog Food - can be handed over to Sale from Sale's House O' Bananas at Toronbo Shores in exchange for Bananas. | |
Bananas - should be given to Kiki, a monkey found near the moat of Kanalet Castle. In exchange for the fruits, Kiki and other monkeys will build a bridge across the moat for you. They'll also leave a stick behind. | |
Stick - should be handed over to Tarin near a beehive in Ukuku Prairie. He will use it to knock the beehive down and run away from the angry bees, leaving a honeycomb behind. | |
Honeycomb - can be traded with Chef Bear in the house located in the southeastern corner of Animal Village. He will give you pineapple and a useful hint about waking up the sleeping Walrus at the entrance to Yarna Desert. | |
Pineapple - should be given to Papal in Tal Tal Mountain Range in exchange for hibiscus. | |
Hibiscus - should be handed over to Christine in Animal Village (the third house from the left) in exchange for Goat's Letter. | |
Goat's Letter - can be traded with Mr. Write ,who lives in a house on the border of the Mysterious Forest. You will receive a broom in exchange for the letter. | |
Broom - can be given to Grandma Ulrira from Mable Village (she stands in front of the house south of the village) in exchange for a fishing hook. | |
Fishing Hook - can be forwarded to the Fisherman found beneath the bridge in Martha's Bay. In exchange for the hook, he will give you his next catch, Necklace. | |
Necklace - should be given to the Mermaid swimming in Martha's Bay. In thanks for finding her necklace, she'll give you a scale from her tail. | |
Scale - the final item in the trading sequence. After inserting it in the mermaid statue in Martha's Bay a secret staircase to a cave will appear where you'll find the Magnifying Lens. |
Other items
Guardian Acorn - appears after defeating 12 enemies without getting hit. It reduces the next three damage taken by half. When the Blue Clothes are obtained, a Guardian Acorn reduces all damage taken to a fourth. | |
Piece of Power - appears after defeating 40 to 45 enemies. It causes double damage and sending enemies flying when hit. When the Red Clothes are obtained, a Piece of Power quadruples the damage. | |
Sleepy Toadstool - can be found in Mysterious Forest. A Witch from Witch's Hut will turn it into Magic Powder. | |
Secret Seashell - hidden collectibles scattered across Koholint Island. There is a total of 50 seashells to find in chests, under bushes or rocks, underwater. You can get some of the shells from the characters encountered during the game. For a full list of Secret Seashells locations see the "collectibles" section. | |
Piece of Heart - hidden collectibles scattered across Koholint Island. There is a total of 32 pieces of heart to gather. Finding them will increase your live points. For a full list of Pieces of Heart location see the "collectibles" section. | |
Middleweight Lure - can be obtained after catching a big fish in the fishing mini-game. It can be used to cast into deep waters. | |
Golden Leaves - items related to the task from Prince Richard. Finding all five leaves in Kanalet Castle will allow you to obtain Slime Key, which is necessary to open Key Cavern. For the location of all leaves, check the third chapter of the walkthrough titled "Key Cavern". | |
Chamber Stone - a total of 14 can be found around Koholint Island. Chamber Stones can be given to Dampe to create new chambers and effects for the Chamber Dungeon. |
Dungeon items
Compass - lets you see the hidden chests on the map and the location of the main boss in the dungeon. It also alerts you with a tone upon entering a room with a hidden small key. | |
Map - allows you to see every room of every floor in the dungeon it was found in. | |
Stone Beak - once obtained can be attached to every Owl Statue in the dungeon to reveal a hint about a puzzle, an enemy, a mini-boss or the dungeon's main boss. | |
Small Key - can only be used in the dungeon where it was found. A Small Key opens locked doors and key blocks. | |
Nightmare's Key - opens access to a Dungeon's Nightmare. |
Keys
Tail Key - can be found in a chest located in the north of Mysterious Forest. To get to the chest, ou must first help Tarin, who was transformed into a Racoon, by sprinkling him with Magic Powder. Tail Key opens the entrance to Tail Cave. | |
Slime Key - can be found in the Pothole Field behind Richard's Mansion. To get access to the field you must first collect five Golden Leaves for Richard. The Key is hidden underground next to the Owl Statue. Slime Key unlock the entrance to the Key Cavern. | |
Angler Key - gained after defeating Lanmola on the quicksand of Yarna Desert. It can be inserted into Angler Keyhole to stop the waterfall that is blocking the entrance to Angler's Tunnel. | |
Face Key - can be found in the Shrine located at the northwest of Ancient Ruins. It unlocks the access to the Face Shrine. | |
Bird Key - located in a cave in Tal Tal Mountain Range. You'll need the help of a Rooster to reach the other parts of the cave, which you will have to resurrect first by playing the Frog's Song of Soul. Bird Key unlocks the access to Eagle's Tower. |
Instruments
Full Moon Cello - one of the eight Instruments of the Sirens needed to awaken the Wind Fish. It can be found in the Tail Cave after defeating Moldorm. | |
Conch Horn - can be found in Bottle Grotto after defeating Genie. | |
Sea Lily's Bell - can be found at the end of Key Cavern after defeating Slime Eye. | |
Surf Harp - can be found in Angler's Tunnel after defeating Angler Fish. | |
Wind Marimba - can be found in Catfish's Maw after defeating Slime Eel. | |
Coral Triangle - can be found in Face Shrine after defeating Facade. | |
Organ of the Evening Calm - can be found at the end of Eagle's Tower after defeating Evil Eagle. | |
Thunder Drum - can be found in Turtle Rock after defeating Hot Head. |
Figures
There are 10 figurines to win in the Trendy Game. After winning one you will have to place it in a specific location to unlock the next figure. As a reward for placing all figurines, you will get a lifetime discount for the Claw Game and one of the Chamber Stone.
CiaoCiao - can be won at the Trendy Game, after collecting the Yoshi Doll. You can place it upon a pedestal in Madame MeowMeow's house on the table. | |
Goomba - will appear after you won CiaoCiao figure. Can be placed in Marin's house, near the beds. The house is in the center of the village. | |
Spiny - the third figure that appears at the Trendy Game. Can be placed inside of Papahl's house located in the north of the village. Put the figure on a long table. | |
Boo - the fourth figure that appears at the Trendy Game. Should be placed inside of Papahl's house on the small, round table. | |
Cheep Cheep - after winning it at the Trendy Game can be placed in Old Man Ulrira's house, on a round table. Ulrira lives in the house next to the Telephone Booth. | |
Blooper - the sixth figure that appears at the Trendy Game. Can be placed in Old Man Ulrira's house, on a table next to the kettle. | |
Shy Guy - the next figure from the Trendy Game. Can be placed in Papahl's house, on the floor in the right bottom corner of the house. | |
Piranha Plant - after winning it at the Trendy Game can be placed in Marin's house, on the floor between beds and vases. | |
Pokey - the ninth figure from the Trendy Game. Should be placed in Papahl's house, on the floor between a vase and a table. | |
BowWow - the last figure available in the Trendy Game. Can be placed in Madame MeowMeow's house, on the floor next to the door. |
