Mabe Village
Marin is a young girl who lives in Mabe Village with Tarin. She helped Link when she found him on the Toronbo Shores after he was shipwrecked. You will learn from her where to find your sword. Later in the game, she'll help you wake up the Walrus form the passage to Yarna Desert and teach you how to play on your Ocarina. Most often you can find her in the village square next to the large rooster statue. Depending on what stage of the game you are in, you can also meet her on the beach, at Animal Village or in the mountains. | |
Tarin lives with Marin in Mabe Village. After talking to him, he'll give you your shield back. You'll meet him in the Mysterious Forest transformed into a Racoon. To break the curse you need to sprinkle him with some Magic Powder. Tarin can be found inside his house. After completing the Key Cavern you can find him standing next to the beehive on a tree in Ukuku Prairie. Give him a Stick and you will get a Honeycomb. | |
Trendy Gamester owns the Trendy Game in Mable Village. For 10 rupees, he will let you play a single round of claw game. | |
Old Man Ulrira lives in Mabe Village with his wife Grandma Yahoo. He's very shy so if you talk to him face to face in his house, he will tell you to speak to him through a telephone. Ulrira knows everything about Koholint Island so he can give you helpful hints about your current quest. | |
Grandma Yahoo is an elderly woman who lives with her husband in Mabe Village. You can always find her in front of her house. After giving her a new Broom she will reward you with the Fishing Hook she found while sweeping the river bank. | |
Madam MeowMeow lives in Mabe Village with her three animals. When you get back from Tail Cave to Mabe Village, she will ask you to help find her beloved BowWow. After completing Bottle Grotto, you can bring back BowWow to Madame MeowMeow, who will reward you with a kiss that fully refills your heart meter. | |
BowWow is one of Madam MeowMeow's pets. After completing Tail Cave, you'll be asked to save him from the hands of Moblins. To rescue him, you must enter Moblin Cave near the Goponga Swamp and defat King Moblin. After saving him, you'll be able to take him for a walk. BowWow will bark when a Secret Seashell is nearby, and most importantly, he will swallow enemies such as Goponga Flowers, which are blocking the entrance to Bottle Grotto. | |
CiaoCiao is a pet owned by Madam MeowMeow. She lives in the doghouse and unlike the other Chain Chop pets can speak fluently. If you have a Ribbon in your equipment, she will notice that and beg to have it, offering a Dog Food in exchange. | |
ChowChow is a small pet owned by Madam MeowMeow in Mabe Village. | |
Fisherman lives in Mabe Village. You can always find him near the pond. For 10 rupees, he will allow you to enter a fishing mini-game. Another Fisherman can be found underneath a bridge in Martha's Bay. If you give him a Fishing Hook, he will catch a Necklace for you. | |
Joonya is one of the quadruples in Mabe Village. He plays with his brother near the Library. After you return from Tail Cave, he and Kidoh will alert you that BowWow was kidnapped. | |
Kidoh is one of the quadruples from Mabe Village. He and his brother play with a ball near the Library. After you return form Tail Cave he and Joonya will alert you that BowWow was kidnapped. | |
Suhni is one of the quadruples from Mabe Village. You can spot him by Trendy Game building. After you win Yoshi Doll he will tell you that his family was trying to get this toy for a long time. | |
Lattie is one of the quadruples from Mable Village. You can find him near Dream Shrine. Like all the children in the village, he can give you a helpful hint about the game. | |
Mamasha is the quadruplets mother. She lives with her husband Papahl and children in Mabe Village. She'll give you a Ribbon in exchange for Yoshi Doll for her baby. | |
Papahl lives with his wife and kids in Mabe Village. When you first visit him in his house, he will tell you to find him later in Tal Tal Heights. When you find him lost in the mountains, he will be famished and exhausted. By offering him Pineapple, you will get hibiscus instead. | |
Shopkeeper owns a shop in Mable Village. He hates thief and will severely punish you if you try to rip him off. |
Animal Village
Chief Bear lives in a house located in the southeastern corner of Animal Village. She will ask you to give her a Honeycomb and in exchange will give you a Pineapple. She will also give you very helpful advice on how you can get past the Walrus. | |
Christine is a goat who lives in Animal Village. She loves corresponds with Mr. Write. Christine owns a green Bird while Mr. White owns an orange bid. When you talk to her for the first time, she says that the proper etiquette is to give flowers when first meeting a lady. In exchange for Hibiscus, she will give you a Letter. | |
Schule Donavitch is an artist who lives in Animal Village. You can find him in his studio, painting the portrait of the Hippo Model. He is also the sculptor of the Mermaid Statue found near Martha's Bay. If you already in possession of the Magnifying Lens, you can look closer at his painting. Schule Donavitch has a brother, Sale, the owner of Sale's House O' Bananas on Toronbo Shores. | |

Rabbits can be found in both villages on Koholint Island. If you speak to them, they will comment on various things. When you bring Marin to Animal Village, the rabbits jump up and down upon seeing her. | |
Zora can be found in the house in the northeast corner of Animal Village, in a small pond filled with water. He can only be seen if you have the Magnifying Lens. He will tell you to head to Toronbo Shores to meet someone like him. |
Koholint Island
Owl first appears when you find your sword on the beach of Toronbo Shores. He appears again on multiple occasions to share his wisdom and gives you directions in the form of riddles. He explains to you what the island really is and how to escape it. | |
Wind Fish is a large, flying whale sleeping inside the gigantic egg in the top of a mountain. He serves as the main focus of the storyline. In order to escape the Koholint Island, you need to wake him up with a melody from the collected instruments. | |
Li'l Devil shows up in three different locations: in Mysterious Forest, Martha's Bay, and Tal Tal Heights. Upset about being awakened from his nap, the bat will triple your capacity for carrying Bombs and Arrows and double the amount of your Magic Powder. | |
Sale owns the Sale's House O' Bananas at Toronbo Shores. You can give him Dog Food in exchange for Bananas. Later in the game, Sale will encourage you to visit the Rapids Ride. | |
Witch lives in Witch's Hut on Koholint Prairie. She will make you some Magic Powder once you bring her the Sleepy Toadstool you found in Mysterious Forest. She will also teach you how to use Magic Powder. | |
Mr. Write is a lonely man who lives in a house on the border of Mysterious Forest. In exchange for a love letter from Christine, he will give you a Broom. Mr. Write owns an orange bird (the color of Christine's bow) while Christine owns a green bird (the color of Mr. Write's hair). | |
Richard is a Prince who once lived in Kanalet Castle, but he was kicked out by his mad servants. He then moved to his Villa, located near the Pothole Field. To obtain the Slime Key, you need to bring him back his five Golden Leaves. | |
Kiki is standing southeast of Kanalet Castle's moat. When you give her Bananas as part of the Trading Sequence, she will call several other Monkeys to build a bridge across the moat. After finishing the bridge, they will leave a Stick behind. If you approach her with BowWow, Kiki and BowWow will instigate a fight. After a while, the monkey will run away and jump across the moat. | |
Manbo resides in a cave to the west of Angler's Tunnel. After you obtained Ocarina, he will teach you the Manbo's Mambo song. By playing this song, you will teleport to the selected warp point. If you're in one of the Dungeons, it will warp you to the entrance. | |
Walrus can be found sleeping south of Animal Village, blocking the path to Yarna Desert. Only Marin's song can wake him up. Later, if you play the same song in the passage to the desert, the Walrus will reappear and give you Secret Seashell. | |
Fairy Queen can be found in Color Dungeon. She resides in the last room in a pool, in thanks for visiting her, she will offer to grant you the power of color. The Red Tunic will increase the offense, and the Blue Tunic will increase your deafens. | |
Ghost starts haunting you after the completion of Angler's Tunnel. Once you bring him to his house north of Toronbo Shores, he will ask you to take him to his grave, which is located in Koholint Prairie near the cemetery. As a reward, he leaves you a Jar. By going back to his house, you will find a Secret Seashell under one of the vases. | |
Dampe lives in a Shack north of Tabahl Wasteland. At his shack, you can plan and arrange your own dungeons. As you complete dungeons, he'll give you new challenges. | |
Mermaid swims near the entrance of Catfish's Maw in Martha's Bay. When you return her Necklace, she will reward you with a Scale - the last item in the Trading Sequence. After inserting the scale into a Mermaid Statue, you'll discover a secret passage to where you can find Magnifying Lens. | |
Crazy Tracy lives at Koholint Prairie, near Manbo's Pond. She owns a Health Spa where you can buy a Secret Medicine. Her prices are determined by the number of enemies defeated. | |
Mamu lives in the pond beneath the Signpost Maze near Pothole Field. He will teach you play the Frog Song of Soul for 300 rupees. The song is necessary to resurrect the Rooster. You can visit him only once, afterwards he and his choir are away on tour according to the sign outside the pond. | |
Flying Rooster is an animal buried in a tunnel below the Bird Statue in Mabe Village. Once you complete the Signpost Maze and learn the Frog's Song of Soul, you can resurrect the rooster. He will help you fly over the holes to get to the Bird Key in Tal Tal Mountain Range, which is necessary to open Eagle's Tower. | |
Henhouse Keeper lives on top of Tal Tal Mountain Range. He'll tell you about the Flying Rooster. After you complete Eagle's Tower, the Rooster makes its new home in the Henhouse. | |
Raft Shop Owner owns a shop to the east of Tal Tal Heights. In the shop, you can rent a Raft for 100 rupees and enter a Raft Ride or Raft Race. | |
Goriya lives in a cave in the south of Toronbo Shores. You can only see and speak to him after he obtained the Magnifying Lens. He will want to trade a Boomerang for a Shovel, Hookshot, Magic Rod or Rock's Feather. The Boomerang is one of the most useful weapons in the game. Afterward, you can repurchase your item for 300 rupees. |
