Last update: 04 November 2019
On this page, you will find useful information about fishing mini-game in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Aside from traveling through the open world, exploring the dungeons, solving puzzles, and fighting with various opponents The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening also offers a mini fishing game. You can sell caught fish to earn some extra money and even get a few collectible items. A fee of ten rupees is charged for each casting of the rod.
Where and how to fish
There is only one pond in the game where you can cast a fishing rod - in the north part of Mabe Village. Talk to the Fisherman standing by the pond and he will explain how to fish, which is:
- Press A to throw out your line. The longer you hold A, the further you will cast.
- Once the lure is in the water, it will begin to sink. Move the left thumbstick to attract fish.
- Tab A rapidly once the fish bites to reel it in.
Fishing tips
- Stop reeling when the fish is struggling, or it will break the line. Wait until the fish has stopped struggling and start tapping A again.
- Cast the rod to the left of the fish, thanks to that, you will have more tries to lure it.
- Wiggle the lure when it's directly in front of the fish's face.
- If you don't like where the lure has ended up, reel it back in and try again. You will only be charged if you hooked something.
- Blooper pulls diagonally up and away from you, so wait for it to stop, before reeling in again.
- Cheep Cheep jumps out of the water, so wait until it starts to swim again, or the line will break.

Lures
There are three different types of lures available in the mini fishing game. Lightware is a basic lure received from the Fisherman and it's used to catch fish swimming closest to the surface. Even a Lightware Lure will eventually sink to the bottom of the pond, but you have to get other lures to catch bigger fish.
You will get the Middleweight Lure after catching medium size fish, such as Lunker. With this lure, you will be able to catch a Cheep Cheep and a Blooper.
The Heavyweight Lure will be yours after catching a Blooper and only with it, you will be able to fish an Ol' Baron.
Jar
At the very bottom of the pond lies a jar hidden in tall plants. You can use any time of lure to catch it. If any other fish are in the grass, capture it first, otherwise, it will interrupt you in reeling the jar.
