In this chapter of the guide to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, you will learn how to rescue BowWow. We will take you through the Goponga Swamp, show where to find the entrance to the Bottle Grotto and tell you step by step how to find the Conch Horn. On the bottom of this page there is a Map of the Bottle Grotto with markers.
Level main goals:
Rescuing BowWow
You'll find yourself in front of the Tail Cave. Go back to Mabe Village. After entering the village, two boys will tell you to go to BowWow's house. BowWow is the name of the bomb chained in front of the house. Go there and Madame MeowMeow will tell you that her BowWow was kidnapped by the Moblins. Go through the Mysterious Forest and head to the east exit. Now you can jump and take a Piece of Heart. Jump over the upper hole and go east.
Enter the Moblin's Cave and kill all the monsters you encounter. In the penultimate room, you will have to fight with the King Moblin. Wait for him to charge at you - make him hit the wall to have a chance to attack. The door on the right will open. Go there and take BowWow. Exit Moblin's Cave and talk to Dampe, who is now standing next to the sign.
Finding a way to the Bottle Grotto
Go down to the Tabahl Wasteland and head southeast to the Cemetery. Keep going down and then turn left. There will be four gravestones. Move the bottom right gravestone up to reveal a secret staircase.
Move the bottom stone to the right so you can jump diagonally to a small piece of floor. Then, jump up to collect another Piece of Heart. Move the stone to the left to regain access to the stairs and return to the surface.
Go up and leave the Cemetery through the west exit. Go past the Witch's Hut and return to the Mysterious Forest. Head west and find another way out of the forest. Turn right and find the Telephone Booth. Go inside and use the phone. Old Man Ulrira will tell you to take BowWow to the Goponga Swamp. Go out and right, then turn up and enter the water. Head east turn down and then right to find the chest with rupees.
Exploring the Bottle Grotto
Go back up and turn right to find the entrance to the Bottle Grotto. Go to the upper room and wait for the Spark to pass. Light two torches with the Magic Powder to open the door on the right and go through it. Kill all the monsters and a Small Key will drop. Go back to the left room and open the door on the left. Kill all the monsters to open the upper door. Jump up to take the Stone Beak from the chest. Kill the turtle to reopen the bottom door.
Go back down and go right through the room with two torches and another room where you found a Small Key. Go right, get a hint from an owl and tap the blue crystal with the sword. It will turn orange and the blue blocks on the floor will lower. Go down.
Tap the orange crystal and take a Small Key from the chest. Go right, jump to the crystal and hit it so it will turn orange. Jump up to take another Small Key from the chest. Jump left and up to reach the upper room. After killing the monsters, a Small Key will drop.
Go back to the previous room. Jump to the Crystal and hit it to turn it blue. Go back left to the room with the Crystal and the Owl Statue, and go right to take the Small Key.
Come back left, tap the Crystal and go left. Go through the bottom door. Kill the monster. Take the Compass from the chest and go back up. Turn right, hit the Crystal and go down. Tap the Crystal and go right. Jump right and up and then turn right.
Open the door to the upper room with a Small Key. Kill all the monsters and beware of the Spark. The owl will give you a clue. You need to push both blocks to the center of the room to reveal a secret staircase.
Wait for a platform that moved over a dangerous spiked floor and jump on it so you can safely move to the other side. Go left and jump above the spiked floor, wait for the platform to come down and use a ladder to get out. Jump quickly to the center platform to avoid the Spark and kill the bat. Collect the floating hearts by jumping below it, then jump to the upper door. Behind the door, you will have to fight a Mini-Boss. Watch out for Hinox's attacks and charges. Hit him with your sword from behind.
Use the door on the right and get a hint from the Owl. Go up. In the next room, you will encounter an odd purple enemy that pulls you toward it. Avoid this attack and the bats, take the Map of the Bottle Grotto from the chest. Go up and take 20 rupees from the chest. Jump up to reach more Magic Powder and go through the door on the left.
Light the torches to kill the monsters and take the Power Bracelet from the chest. Go back to the room where you defeated Hinox and use the Portal in the center of the room to transport yourself to the first room of the Bottle Grotto. With the Power Bracelet, you can lift vases to get to the chest with 50 rupees.
Go back through the Portal and head north. Remove vases from your path to go right where you can see the orange floor.
Tap the Crystal, move one space to the right and tap it again. Take a Small Key from the chest. Tap the Crystal once again (it should turn orange) so you can go right. Kill all the monsters and keep going right.
Turn down. Push the block on the right down and the left one to the left. Take a vase and smash it on the rabbit. Kill the bat and then the skeleton. You have to get rid of them in the exact order for the chest with the Nightmare's Key to appear.
Come back up and go through the door on the right. Kill rabbits by throwing vases at them and then take the ladder downstairs. Get on the stone platform to move down. Use the ladder to go up and take a vase. Step on the next stone platform. The combined weight of Link and the vase will make it go down. Throw away the vase and take the last ladder to go up.
Jump to the door and use the Nightmare's Key to open it. The last Boss fight awaits. Watch out for fireballs and wait for the Genie to hide in his bottle. Knock the bottle using the sword, pick it up and hit it against the wall. Once the bottle is destroyed, you can kill the Genie. Pick up a Piece of Heart and go to another room to take the Conch Horn.
