Tanks and lightweight armored vehicles | Unit types Sudden Strike 4 Guide

Last update: 22 August 2017

Tanks are the most effective of units, when it comes to crushing the enemy. They come equipped with armor resistant to small caliber shots, can withstand many fragmentation shots and AT shots (depending on the armoring type). It is fitted with a cannon and a revolving turret. It can fire in motion, although it is more accurate while not moving. There are several types of tanks: lightweight (fast, but have weak armoring and small cannon), medium (medium speed, good cannon and front armor plate), heavy (slow and gas-guzzling, but resistant to small-caliber shots), infantry (lethal against infantry; a larger caliber cannon that fires higher-grade fragmentation shells, but not as effective against enemy tanks).

Tanks constitute the assault core of your army. Their task is to destroy infantry, fortifications and sometimes enemy tanks. Note the short range of vision of tanks, because infantry is behind it. At the bottom, there are Soviet BT-7 lightweight tanks, medium T34/76 tanks at the top and on the right, there is a heavy IS-2 elite version. - Tanks and lightweight armored vehicles | Unit types - Unit types - Sudden Strike 4 Game Guide

The flaw inherent in tanks is small range of vision, which is why they constantly require air support. You can obtain a special skill that increases their range of vision, or have one of the tank crewmembers look out through the hatch. This will increase the range of vision, but also this soldier will be exposed and vulnerable to enemy fire. If necessary, you can also have one of the drivers leave the vehicle for a moment, to detect enemies nearby. This is a risky thing to do, because you can easily lose that soldier. All vehicles can be upgraded with sandbag fortifications, or camouflage. This way, you will increase their combat value and you will be able to use them for, e.g. ambushes or for defense. A highly useful skill is using smoke grenades, because they allow you to escape, or hide your positions from the enemy. Also, you can add field repair tools, which provide a single healing to critically damaged vehicles.

Tanks are highly vulnerable to flanking fire and fire from behind and it can end up in a critical damage, e.g. a damaged threading, that will affect commanding such vehicles. You cannot restore resistance points of tanks or any other vehicles (you can restore 50%, but only with a special support doctrine). It is better to evacuate the crew and command them into another vehicle, or include them into an infantry unit.

Armored vehicles are lightweight, usually wheeled ones that are armored and have a turret. They are much faster than tanks and they require less fuel. They require smaller crews, but they cannot withstand as much damage as tanks. Yet, they are perfect for scouting missions. Apart from scouting vehicles, also AA vehicles make up this group. Their armoring is poor, but their weapons can not only destroy airplanes, but also infantry and other lightweight vehicles.
