Mission 6 - Battle of the Falaise Pocket | German| Campaign Sudden Strike 4 Guide
Last update: 13 September 2017
Mission objectives:
- Reinforce the defense line in the north and repel the attacks
- Open a gap in the enemy line and create a safe passage through
- Defend the convoys from enemy ambushes
- Withdraw your forces from the encirclement
This will not be an easy task. First you will have to defend yourself, then perform a tactical assault, and finally hold your position and counterattack different locations on the map. Although every doctrine will be useful, the modified camouflage offered by the support doctrine will be the most valuable one.
You will start in the bottom left corner of the map and you can take control over a broken Tiger immediately. However, you should not focus on that right now. Head towards your allies in the north. Don't place your units on the marker (only your anti-aircraft Wirbelwind), and move them towards the left part of the map (1). If you have camouflage, put your tanks and your infantry right behind the road, along the forest. If you didn't make it on time, and the enemy is already charging towards you, hold your position in front of the road, in the fields. The next attack will take place closer to the crossroad (2). You may also deploy your troops in the forest or along the green fields. Keep in mind that your infantry should provide vision for your tanks, and these can be deployed with some sandbags, right in front of your enemy. This way, even if you get spotted, the damage will be reduced. The last assault will take place along the right edge of the map (3).
Now you need to make your way through the town and secure the path leading north. Send your troops through bushes and trees, not the main road (this will keep them hidden for much longer). Hostile squad near the bridge consists of some vehicles, and soldiers with rocket-launchers. Thus, move your infantry closer, and make your tanks fire from a safe distance (4). When in the town, stick to the right side of the church - there are many hostile units above you. Leave your tanks here and hide your infantry in the buildings. Churchill tanks will soon get here (5). Near the crossroad, there are two medium tanks and a self-propelled gun. Strike with some tanks and your infantry (6). Prepare a squad that will secure path leading north, and protect the convoy. It's best to create a group of 3-4 tanks, 15 soldiers (equip some of them with rocket-launchers) and a supply vehicle that can restore fuel and ammo.
There are three hostile emplacements stretched from the crossroad, till the field in the north. They consist of one anti-tank unit and some soldiers. Destroy the last remaining enemy to move to the next part of the mission. However, before you do that, place all your anti-aircraft guns in the middle of the field (7). This location will be patrolled by assault aircrafts twice. Leave some additional troops here, as another assault will take place not far from the mill.
Convoys will move along the road, where you started your mission and obtained reinforcements, and the east road secured by your ally. The convoys will be attacked from 6 different locations (one wave per location). Usually, the enemy will send some Cromwell/Sherman tanks and transport vehicles with infantry. The first location is the road leading north-west, in the town, near the church (5). You should deploy your troops there. The next ambush will take place at the north part of the road, near the mill (8) (where you left your fast units to defend the convoys). Now get your troops where the asphalt road and the sandy one cross (9). If you have camouflage, you can hide in the forest. Remember to bring your anti-aircraft guns here - an assault aircraft will come this direction. Eliminate the threat and move the gun back to the field.
Another ambush will take place at the bottom of the same road, at the crossroads (10). Avoid damaging your trucks by placing your scouts in front of the road. The second to last wave will come from the same direction, where you defended yourself at the very beginning (1). The last wave will strike the bridge, by the church, from its west side (4). The enemy will use the field road leading to the forest. You can get some of the troops from the town. Moments later, you will receive an order to retreat north, where the convoy was heading. You need to retreat at least one unit to complete the mission. The mission will continue until you retreat all your troops, or they will get killed. The Allies will bring way to many tanks for you to handle.
