Mission 3 - Operation Barbarossa | German| Campaign Sudden Strike 4 Guide
Last update: 13 September 2017
Mission objectives:
- Conduct an aerial recon to find soviet military assets
- Break through the enemy frontline at its weakest point
- Attack the area behind enemy lines and neutralize all military assets
- Mop up the soviet defense line
You will begin the mission by conducting aerial recon in all the locations marked on your map. You will find different enemy squads, and each time they may be located randomly. You will always face a large infantry division (around 15 soldiers), 3 howitzers, 3 repair vehicles with some soldiers, 3 supply trucks and their guards, field staff and some guards, and 6-7 tanks (including T34/76). Some of the locations will be empty. Memorize location of the tanks and send your heavy bombers there.
Attack as soon as you complete the recon. Follow the hints and strike the weakest point of the fortification line - right in front of a thick forest (1). Send you infantry first, you should see two guns and an empty glade between them. Fire until you deal with these two emplacements, and trenches on the right. Select the entire infantry and enter the thick forest. Then, go right and strike your opponent from behind (2). Don't attack from the longest available distance, and move closer to the enemy. If you attack all the fortification lines in the same way, the enemy will surely surrender - just make sure to strike with a large division. On the other hand, tanks defending these locations are likely to fight till the very end.
The biggest threat are hostile assault aircrafts that will fly above your vehicles every once in a while. It's hard to determine, whether it's the group of tanks attacking the fortification line, emplacements in the back, or reinforcements that you fought. You will get reinforcements for every location that you destroy. These will always consist of three vehicles, one of which is often a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
Hostile reinforcements that will appear often, can also cause some problems. These can be divided into two types: BT-7 (light tanks) and around 10 soldiers, or two BT-7, Katyusha rocket-launcher and some soldiers. It seems that the second type will always arrive from the right edge of the map, not far from the place scouted by your planes (3). You can position some of your tanks, anti-aircraft guns and infantry there - you will strike the enemy as soon as the units enter the battlefield. The former type of reinforcements will often arrive from a different location, and move across the map randomly. These soldiers will often head towards the place where you struck lately (even aerial attack). You should move fast, as enemy units will often combine into larger groups. If you were not attacked by enemy reinforcements for some time, the enemy run out of available troops. Just focus on taking over hostile fortification lines. Always attack from the back, not from any of the sides. Hostile troops will surrender much faster if you use more forces to assault them.
