The best ores are deep underground - Ores - Craftsmans Guide - Starbound - Beta - Game Guide and Walkthrough
The best ores are deep underground

Metals can be found on the surface of each planet. The type depends on the level of the planet and, partially, on its biome. Iron is, predominantly, used for crafting various weapons, armors, tools and some types of furniture.

Metals are, usually deep underground, although you can also find them close to the surface, in small amounts. After you mine the metal, you get its raw form, i.e. the Ore. To smelt metal into a more useful form, you simply need to put it in the Stone Furnace, Thanks to which you will receive Bars.

Metals can be divided into 3 main categories: Tool ores, Fuel ores and Tier ores.

Tool ores

The most common type of ores. They are, above all, used for crafting low-level armors, weapons and the majority of tools. You can find them already in the Alpha sector. The armors crafted off these ores are required to craft racial armors of the same level.
