Blocks | Planetary Guide Starbound Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Blocks are the basic elements that the world of Starbound is created from. Apart from the items. Everything here is constructed of the single blocks, like the surfaces of planets, buildings, undergrounds, etc. each block also has its own properties and most of them can be used to craft other blocks or items, like e.g. ores.
All of the blocks in the game can be grouped under three main categories:
- Natural - this category consists of blocks that can be found on the surfaces of planets or asteroids. An example of such blocks are ores, wood or soil.
- Player-created blocks - these are the ones that you acquire by using the natural blocks, like e.g. wood or ore. Examples of such blocks are blocks of metal, platforms or windows. Most of these blocks can colored with paint.
- Blocks from buildings and undergrounds - you can only find them in structures in the game world, like e.g. cities of the individual races, special undergrounds or bases. They cannot be crafted in a natural way and can only be obtained by disassembling the structures constructed with these blocks.
