Biomes | Planetary Guide Starbound Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Each planet has the appropriate type of biome. These constitute the planet's environment and determine such aspects as temperature, kinds of blocks, plants and monsters. A planet may have only one main biome, and also many smaller sub-biomes, which cover some area of the planet.
Biomes have been divided into four main categories, which determines the temperature prevalent on that planet.
Warm biomes
These are the most common and, usually, the most dangerous, biomes. Their climate is moderate and they are warm during the day but, at night the temperature may drop to negative values , which may result in the freezing of the main character.
Types of warm biomes: Arid, Barren, Forest, Grasslands, Jungle, Ocean, Savannah.
Hot biomes
They usually are arid lands of high temperature. These biomes can be very dangerous for the inexperienced travelers.
Types of hot biomes: Desert, Magma, Tentacle, Volcanic.
Cold biomes
There always is a negative temperature in these biomes, due to which you need to get appropriately prepared, by getting sufficiently warm clothes or a lot of fire.
Types of cold biomes: Arctic, Snow, Tundra.
Biomes without atmosphere
The most dangerous kind of biomes. Apart from the critically low temperature, they also do not have the atmosphere of their own, and, which follows - there is no air. A character that teleports to such a biome, without proper equipment, not only will start freezing very quickly, but also will start to suffocate, due to the lack of oxygen, in a way similar to swimming underwater. If you stay for longer in such a biome, you are going to need special equipment, e.g. the Survival System.
Types of biomes with no atmosphere: Asteroid Field, Moon.
