The red arrows mean that your group is not yet fully organized after the fight.

The red arrows next to the party size appear after each battle. They mean that the party is not fully organized. This makes the party move slower. In addition, starting another battle with this symbol will lower the morale of your party. So it's worth waiting with the next fight until the red arrows disappear - especially since it takes a few seconds. However, if it is impossible to avoid the battle, you have to take into account the aforementioned lowered morale of your soldiers.
