Companions in Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord have several functions. Like your character, they possess skills that can prove extremely useful on (and off) the battlefield. A companion with highly developed combat skills will help you kill enemies, and a companion with advanced Medicine skills will heal your soldiers.

Companions can also help with quests by performing them for you. Most quests give you a choice - you can complete missions yourself or send your companion along with a few soldiers.

Family members can also become companions (provided they are adult). Open the clan window and order a person you want as a companion to join your party.

The rule is simple - potential companions stay in taverns. All you have to do is visit any town and check the tavern - if a potential companion is there, you will see its icon, just like in the picture above. After talking to that companion, you will know their price of joining the party - if you agree to it, that person will join you.

The Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord encyclopedia can help you find potential companions. To see it, press the N key during the game. Now select the Heroes tab. When you click on a given companion, you will see its last known location.
