Is it worth to buy a Workshop?
Workshop in Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord is used to earn money in a passive way - that is, you don't have to do any activities to make money after you buy it. You don't have to pay your employees or provide materials for production. The earnings are constantly fluctuating and are usually small - earning 200 gold a day is a good result. However, it is worth remembering that Workshop never brings losses. It may turn out that the Workshop will not earn anything during a particular day. But this won't strain your budget.
In other words, buying a Workshop is a safe investment. One such facility probably won't even cover your soldiers' wages. However, after a long time you will get your gold back. Of course, you can have more than one Workshop - then your earnings will increase.
For comparison - the earnings from caravans can be much higher, but running caravans is also associated with expenses. Whether your caravan makes money or not, you will have to pay for its security every day, and the first days of the caravan's operation usually involve some losses.
How to buy a Workshop?
Workshops in Bannerlord can be purchased in any town. The easiest way is to go to a town and check the owners on the list of important characters in that place. Just hover your cursor over a character - this way you can find out if they own a workshop.
If a character owns at least one workshop, you will see a dialog option allowing you to buy a workshop during the conversation. Thus, you will also learn the selling price. After the purchase, the workshop immediately becomes your property. You don't need to perform any additional actions - the work will start automatically, and you can get the earned gold the very next day.
Best workshops
It is not obvious which Workshop is the best in Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord. Earnings depend on the location of the Workshop, and more specifically on the resources that are common and cheap in a specific city. Surrounding villages have an impact on this. For example, if a Wool is produced in nearby settlements, a will be Wool Weavery will be the best choice. You must also remember that your earnings are affected by the situation in the region. If the surrounding villages are constantly under attack, you won't make much money here.

Workshop isn't earning money - what to do?
You can change your workshop type at any time. This is useful when the object is not earning a lot of money or its earnings are significantly dropped. You can change the production type in the clan's window - in the Other tab, click on the workshop icon.. This will show a list of all types of production. Each change of production type costs 2000 pieces of gold.
What type of workshop to choose? It depends on the situation in the region. If there is a battle near the town (or even directly in it), it is worth changing the workshop to a Forge. Forge manufactures armaments - and the demand for weapons increases during the war. In addition, you need to pay attention to the competition. If there are already workshops of a certain type in the town (this information is visible, for example, in the window for changing the type of workshop), then another such workshop is unlikely to earn well.
Remember that the workshop can also be sold (in the window for changing the type of workshop). However, treat this as a last resort option when you need quick gold, as you will receive a small amount when you sell it.
