Walkthrough - Chapter 1 - The Old Country Mafia II Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
DEFEATING ENEMIES STATIONED IN FRONT OF THE TOWN HALL:
Wait until you've been given full control over Vito's movements. Your first job will be to take out several soldiers standing in front of the town hall and remember that you can hold the right mouse button for better aim. Start off by eliminating a soldier standing next to the entrance to the town hall #1 and then deal with enemies standing close to a group of civilians #2. Don't worry, because you won't have to kill all hostiles units yourself. Allies present during the course of this mission will help you in securing this area.
ENTERING THE TOWN HALL:
Make sure that it is save to leave cover before pressing the CTRL key (you'll also want to press this key each time when trying to use a new cover). Proceed towards the main entrance to the town hall, but don't get to close to it #1. Enemies will start firing at the main door and you would lose a lot of health (or die) if you would be standing there at that precise moment. Proceed to a hole in the wall found to the left of the main entrance #2. Approach the hole and press the SPACE key to make your way inside the town hall.
SECURING THE TOWN HALL:
Head on to the next room. Press the CTRL key here to "attach yourself" to a wall found to your right. Move to the left so you'll be standing next to an opened window #1. Follow the suggestion given to you by the game and press the 1 key twice to choose grenade. Hold the left mouse button to throw a grenade at enemies hiding behind sandbags #2. You'll be rewarded with a cool cut-scene (assuming that you've done everything according to the plan).
The whole point of this attack was to show you how the auto-healing system works, so you'll have to wait after the explosion for Vito to regain full health #1. Press the 3 key to choose the rifle again and head to the next room #2. You'll find several new weapons here, including a K98 rifle, an MP-40 submachine gun and a C96 pistol. Each time you want to pick up a new weapon you'll have to approach it and press the E key. Don't worry about Vito, because he'll be allowed to carry an infinite number of guns without them having an impact on his ability to move.
Approach a door leading to the next room of the town hall and wait for one of your colleagues to open it with a solid kick #1. Take cover behind the wall and try taking out several enemy units from here #2. I would recommend using the rifle, because you'll be allowed to score precise hits from a larger distance. Thankfully you won't have to act alone. Several enemies will die as a result of the explosion and your teammates will help you in dealing with the rest.
Don't enter the main area of the town hall without making sure that you'll be safe there. Stay away from the burning corridor and proceed towards the stairs. Turn left #1 and approach a new room slowly. Two other enemies are taking cover nearby. You can throw a grenade at them or kill them while using cover #2 (the other soldier won't be seen right away, because he's a little bit further ahead).
Enter the room where recently killed enemies were hiding. Approach a new door and this time press the Q key to kick down the door yourself #1. You'll uncover that a new enemy soldier was hiding in the next room and that he's taken a hostage #2. You can kill him yourself with a precise headshot or you can wait for your colleagues to deal with him. Watch out, because other enemies will soon fire at a nearby door. Hide until it's safe and choose a better weapon before moving on.
Choose the only available passageway leading to a nearby balcony #1. There are more enemies on the street, however you should ignore them and take cover. Watch out, because a new soldier will soon find his way to this balcony and you must kill him as soon as he appears in front of you. Proceed to the passageway he's used #2 once he's gone.
DEFENDING THE TOWN HALL:
You'll soon make your way to the last room of the town hall. If you don't mind taking a huge risk you can proceed to one of the balconies where you'll find an MG42 #1. Pressing the F key would allow you to start using this weapon. If you don't want to expose yourself to enemy fire you should consider taking cover inside the town hall, next to a destroyed balcony #2. You would be much safer in that position and you won't have to worry about failing the mission as a result of ignoring the MG42.
I would strongly recommend destroying parked trucks during this battle #1, because each explosion will kill everyone around it. As for the enemies, focus on soldiers standing close to your position and firing at you. Once they're gone you may decide to attack more distant targets. You'll have to keep fighting until a tank appears near the town hall #2. Don't worry, because you won't have to destroy it. Just be patient and wait for this introductionary chapter to end. You'll soon be rewarded with new cut-scenes.
