Assassin's Creed Video Game Series
A series produced and published by the Ubisoft corporation, which was born as an open-world action game, but years later made a turn towards the action RPG genre. The series debuted in 2007 with the game Assassin's Creed. Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond and Corey May are considered to be the creators of the brand.
The core games of the series are developed by one leading studio of Ubisoft (such as Ubisoft Quebec or Ubisoft Montreal) with the support of other development teams of the corporation. For a long time, the main installments of the series were released every year, although the repetitiveness of the gameplay and the small number of innovations prompted the developers to slow down the release cycle. This allowed developers to work in peace on solutions to bring a breath of fresh air to the brand. The first production created in accordance with the new policy was the game released in 2017 Assassin's Creed Origins.
Outline of the plot of the Assassin's Creed series
The plot axis of the games in the series Assassin's Creed is the centuries-old struggle between the Assassin's brotherhood and the Templar order.. In addition, an important role is played in them by the motif of the approaching end of the world and the cosmic threat to humans, which can only be averted thanks to artifacts from the past, created by an ancient civilization.
The main characters of the series are the descendants of the Assassins, as well as their distant ancestors. Using a technology called Animus, the former gain access to their so-called "genetic memory", which allows them to take part in events from the memories of their "great-grandparents".
Thanks to this, players can impersonate, among others, the Grand Master of the Assassins living during the period of the Third Crusade (Altair ibn-La'Ahad), an Italian Assassin from the Renaissance (Ezio Auditore da Firenze), a half-Mohican, half-British from the period of the American War of Independence (Connor Kenway) and his pirate grandfather (Edward Kenway) or, finally, one of the founders of the Assassin Brotherhood (Bayek of Siwa) or even the grandchildren of King Leonidas (Alexios and Cassandra).
A brief history of the Assassin's Creed series
Cycle Assassin's Creed has lived to see installments on all leading platforms - from personal computers, through desktop consoles and handhelds, to smartphones and tablets.. The series was born on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while its first installment developed for eighth-generation consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) was Assassin's Creed: Unity, the action of which was set in the realities of the French Revolution. Despite the improvements made, the title suffered from numerous technical problems for a long time. Only the next installment - set in 19th-century London Assassin's Creed: Syndicate - debuted without major complications.
In 2017, the series received a kind of "soft reboot"; game Assassin's Creed Origins not only introduced the origins of the Assassin's brotherhood, but also brought the brand closer to open-world action RPGs. In the direction taken at that time, the series continued to follow over the following years, with such games as Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
Many parts of the series have also received numerous re-releases and remasters. In addition, the brand has been expanded with various spin-offs. Among the latter, a sub-cycle of 2.5D platformers led the way under the title Assassin's Creed Chronicles. It consisted of three parts, the action of which took place in historical China, India and Russia, respectively, while their artistic setting was inspired by the culture of each region. Also worthy of separate mention is the mobile Assassin's Creed: Jadewhich is set in ancient China, as well as the FPP action game Assassin's Creed: Nexus VR, realized with virtual reality headsets in mind.
Attention should also be paid to projects under the banner of Discovery Tour. We are talking about standalone productions based on educational and exploratory modes for the games Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, in which players are free to explore an era without having to look at plot threads, enemies or any other complications and limitations.
Gameplay in the games of the Assassin's Creed series
Gameplay in the games in the series Assassin's Creed is based on three basic elements - sneaking, parkour overcoming obstacles (climbing the walls of buildings, jumping on rooftops, etc.) and fighting enemies. Most events are presented from a third-person perspective (TPP). The protagonist controlled by the player moves in an open world, which, in addition to missions related to the main plot, also offers a number of side quests and optional activities.
Game Assassin's Creed III introduced to the series spectacular naval battles and the opportunity to command your own ship. This element of gameplay was strongly developed in "pirate" Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and later in a slightly modified form also appeared in Assassin's Creed: Rogue and set in ancient Greece Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
Assassin's Creed Origins instead brought an expanded character development system, while the aforementioned Odyssey - the ability to choose dialogue issues and make decisions leading to different endings. W Assassin's Creed: Valhalla on the other hand, the plot consisted of a series of smaller stories, and players were given some freedom in terms of the order in which they were explored. Released in 2024, the game Assassin's Creed: Shadows on the other hand, introduced two completely different characters - a samurai named Yasuke who was the first playable historical hero in the history of the series, and an assassin-shinobi named Naoe.
Adaptations of the Assassin's Creed series
The popularity of the brand Assassin's Creed has contributed to the creation of the miniseries Assassin's Creed: Lineage and the animated shorts Assassin's Creed: Ascendance i Assassin's Creed: Embers. The series also lived to see several novels based on it, most of which are signed by Oliver Bowden (one of the artistic pseudonyms of British writer Anton Gill).
In addition, a high-budget screen adaptation of the book has beena high-budget theatrical adaptation was being made, produced in collaboration between 20th Century Fox and New Regency studios. The lead roles were played by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, with Justin Kurzel as director; all three had previously worked on the screen adaptation of Macbeth from 2015. Written by Scott Frank, the script was not based on any specific part of the series, instead depicting the fate of a new character (Callum Lynch) whose ancestor (Aguilar Aguilar de Nerha) was a member of the Assassin brotherhood fighting the Spanish Inquisition.

Assassin's Creed Origins
Action
October 27, 2017
The seventh major installment in the Ubisoft's best-selling action game series. Plotwise, Assassin's Creed: Empire is a sort of prequel to the entire series, taking players so far back in time as none other installment did - to the ancient Egypt, long before the two opposing orders of Assassins and Templars were founded. Players play the part of a slave, a distant ancestor to Altair - the protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed. Concerning mechanics, the title does not differ significantly from previous installments of the series, still being primarily an adventure game, supplemented with action sequences and carefully planned assassinations. The game world was, of course, with reverence typical of the franchise, adapted to the new setting, bringing back things like the possibility to mount animals or use boats. On the technical side, Empire is said to avoid relying on the achievements of previous installments, while our area of activity is approximately three times larger than what was offered by Assassin's Creed IV.

In these productions, the players have an opportunity to visit the Renaissance Venice and Florence as well as Rome, ruled by Borgias, and Constantinople just a few years before Suleiman the Magnificent conquered it. For the purposes of Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection, every aforementioned title was visually enhanced — the most important change is rising the screen resolution to 1080p but some textures and character models were improved, too. While multiplayer modes were deleted, all expansions and DLCs for the single player campaigns were preserved.

Playing as Nikolai Orelov, you take care of the Brotherhood of the Assassins’ interests, completing a series of dangerous missions, whose general gameplay premises are no different than in the core Assassin’s Creed games. However, because of the unusual perspective, the game requires even more tactical approach and careful planning of your next step.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India
Action
January 12, 2016
The second installment in a spin-off series created within Assassin’s Creed - one of the Ubisoft’s leading franchise. The game translates the series’ mechanics into a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure game. The story is set in 1841, in India. The country is on the brink of open conflict as tensions increase between the Empire of Sikh and the British, who claim rights to Indian territory. With these historical events serving as the background, another ongoing conflict comes to light – the never-ending war of Assassins and Templars. You play as Abraaz Mir, a member of the Assassin Order, who tries to care for the Order’s interests in the times of political turmoil. The game features the characteristic elements of the series, such as spectacular acrobatics, sneaking, melee-combat with guards, and assassinations of targets. The shift in player perspective, however, necessitates a different play style, putting more emphasis on tactical thinking and planning your every step.
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
Action
October 23, 2015
It is the ninth major installment in a best-selling action game series, this time developed by Ubisoft Quebec. After a brief affair with the French Revolution the developers decided to take players to 19th-century London of the Victorian era, giving them control of two characters: hot-headed young man named Jacob and his twin sister Evie. Although the game retains all of its key elements, gameplay mechanics went through some changes. The streets are full of carriages, which, just as in Grand Theft Auto series, can be hijacked and used to move around the city. Another essential element stems from the fact of leading Jacob’s gang, and which, among other things, results in street brawls with opposing groups. The game faithfully recreates the topography of the capital city of England, so you can easily find and recognize such landmarks as Westminster Palace or St. Paul’s Cathedral. The heroes also gained new weapons and gadgets as well as previously unseen abilities.

Being the last survivor of the Order's Chinese subdivision, she returns to her homeland with the intention of avenging her murdered brother. During the journey she meets a number of historical figures and visits several famous locations of China, including Beijing, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City.
