Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia Description
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia is a platform game and the third entry in a spin-off series to Assassin’s Creed, a popular franchise focused on the never ending war between Assassins and Templars. This time, the player visits the 20th-century Russia. Unlike core Assassin’s Creed games, this one features 2.5D perspective. PC, XONE and etc. edition was developed by Ubisoft Montreal.
Story
The story sets off in 1918. The Russian Empire has just gone through two violent revolutions: The February Revolution and the October Revolution, which brought unprecedented changes to the country's government structure. Soon after Bolsheviks took over control of the country, they introduced aggressive rules aimed at their political opponents, which led to a civil war. In the heart of the chaos that spreads across the nation yet another conflict is being waged – the one between Assassins and Templars. Playing as Nikolai Orelov you have to steer between the fighting factions, but at the same time act toward the interests of the Assassin Order, who tasks the protagonist with another mission.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia does not stray from what we saw in previous installments in the series. Most of the time you sneak into guarded areas, run on rooftops, escape guards, and assassinate targets. However, since the game employs a 2.5D perspective, all these activities require a bit different approach than usual. More important than ever are such elements as the behavior of guards and hideouts, which help you remain undetected by enemy patrols. As the game is set in the 20th century, firearms are of increased significance, with both the hero and his opponents using them.
Technology
The change of perspective allowed the developers to focus on more detailed, hand drawn design of each location. While creating the game world, all possible effort was put into recapturing the atmosphere of the early twentieth century Russia. This is evident not only in the distinctive appearance of individual characters and the way they are dressed, but also in the precise recreation of key landmarks, such as The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed.
