The first large story-driven expansion to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. The story is set in the year 1888, 20 years after the events of the base game, and focuses on the hunt for the infamous serial killer known as Jack the Ripper.
Jack the Ripper is a large story-driven expansion to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate released on PC, PS4 and XONE. The DLC requires base game to play. Both titles were developed by Ubisoft’s subsidiaries.
Story
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate – Jack the Ripper is set in the year 1888, 20 years after the events of the base game. As the title suggests, the story tells about one of the most infamous serial killers in history. Scotland Yard inspectors prove to be unable to stop the man’s killing spree, and new, invariably gory details on his crimes are constantly being published by London newspapers, evoking increasing panic among the citizens. It is Evie and Jacob who have to stop the monster.
In contrast to the original game, the leading character in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate – Jack the Ripper is Evie – we only control Jacob briefly at the beginning of the story. The heroine spent last two decades in India, where she was cooperating with the local members of the Assassin Order and learned new skills, which she can now put to good use in her hunt for Jack the Ripper.
Gameplay
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate – Jack the Ripper released for PC, PS4 and XONE offers ten new story missions. The whole story is set within a small, contained district of London, with the rest of the city being unavailable for exploration. The area, known from the base game, was slightly modified, and now offers lots of extra activities and collectibles. As you play you get to visit several new locations, such as the Owers Manor or the swamp near the River Thames. Apart from hunting Jack the Ripper, Evie can undertake some side missions, many of which focus on helping London prostitutes. Another attraction is a series of missions, in which you play as the eponymous murderer.
In terms of gameplay, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate – Jack the Ripper does not introduce any revolutionary changes, although there are some interesting innovations. First of all, Evie gained a couple of new gadgets based on hallucinogenic substances that are able to evoke terror in her opponents. All in-game characters now have a three-tier fear indicator, and when it reaches maximum level they begin to panic and flee.
