Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection is a set containing two parts of the award-winning Assassin's Creed series - ACIV: Black Flag (2013) and AC: Rogue (2014). Both titles stand out from the other parts of the cycle because they put stronger emphasis on marine exploration and battles involving ships. The package also includes all DLCs issued for the aforementioned productions. The French company Ubisoft is responsible for the creation and release of the games, also known from the Far Cry series of first person shooters.
Plot
The main character of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is Edward Kenway - an 18th century Wales-based pirate who impersonates a member of the Assassin order to find out about a secret place. The sailor is thus involved in an eternal conflict between two deadly organizations.
In Assassin's Creed: Rogue we incarnate Shay Patrick Cormack, a 18th century Assassin who decides to betray his Order and take the side of the Templars.
Mechanics
In both games included in the package, the gameplay is quite similar. The player explores a vast, three-dimensional environment (we observe the world from behind the protagonist's back, i.e. from the third person perspective), inspired by real, historical places and architecture of a given region and historical period. It is also possible to climb buildings and trees. While traveling, we carry out main and side missions, which require dealing with various types of tasks (e.g. killing targets).
Moving around the game world we often have to fight - whether for our own life or available loot. The system responsible for this aspect of the game requires dexterity - we need to sense the pace of enemies' attacks in order to evaporate them at the right moments and open the way to counter-attack. In the game you can find a large arsenal of melee and thrown/fired weapons (black powder pistols and muskets).
An important role in the discussed titles is played by sailing on the sea (as well as diving below its surface) and clashes on board ships, which were carried out very spectacularly. We can manoeuvre our unit, shoot the enemy, and also make a spectacular boarding to deal with the surviving enemies on our own. AC: Rogue adds several new features to the gameplay, such as the ability to break through the ice floes that cover the ocean in some regions, and the new tools used in combat (burning oil and automatic folder).
As the game progresses, we also develop both the main character and the ship he owns, gradually increasing the range of available capabilities.
Technical aspects
Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection has a pretty three-dimensional graphic design. The productions look slightly better than their variants known from previous generation consoles - the texture or lighting system has been improved. The title uses a number of features specific to the Nintendo Switch console, such as HD Rumble, touchscreen and motion control.
