Another installment in the popular action-adventure game series by Nintendo, and also the first game in the series for WiiU. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you play once again as the main character of the franchise, Link, who gets involved in yet another exciting and dangerous adventure as he tries to learn what led to the downfall of the land of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for SWITCH and WiiU is another instalment in the popular action-adventure game series, which started out in 1986, when the first game was released for NES. It's the first new game in the franchise for WiiU. Earlier only the remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD were released for this device. As per tradition, the game was developed by Nintendo.
Plot
The story is set in the ruined kingdom of Hyrule. You play, of course, as the series' protagonist, Link, who has to learn what exactly happened. This leads to an even bigger and more exciting adventure.
Mechanics
The gameplay is a combination of several genres: adventure, action RPG, survival, and more. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features a fully open world, waiting to be explored. The developers have allowed a range of options thanks to which you can reach every nook and cranny of the amazing and dangerous country. With enough determination and proper equipment, you can climb a high mountain, from where you can reach another location. It is not, however, aseasy in practice, and you need to prepare before every journey.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for SWITCH and WiiU has much in common with survival games; during exploration, Link gathers resources, which he can then use to prepare food and drink by the fire. Those items can greatly affect your abilities, e.g. your speed or sneak skill. You should also take care of acquiring the right equipment, as, for example, it's not a good idea to go hiking into the mountains without any warm clothes.
Link has not only to face the world, but also with many puzzles and dangerous creatures roaming around Hyrule. However, there is more to the combat system than just mindlessly swinging your sword; you have to wisely choose your strategy during every battle, use surprise attacks or utilize elements of the environment (you can e.g. throw a huge stone from a nearby hill straight at the enemies lurking nearby).
Technical aspects
The visuals of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are of the highest quality. The game features a joyful, cartoonish style, although it's greatest attraction is the vast, varied world. You can explore grassy meadows, snowy mountains, wastelands, etc. The landscapes are complemented by excellent lighting effects and changing weather conditions, which can affect the gameplay (for example, the wind can change the direction in which a wildfire may be coming).
Other
Like many other Nintendo productions, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for SWITCH and WiiU is compatible with amiibo figurines. Thanks to the Wolf Link toy, the appropriate character can appear in game, aiding us in combat and helping us look for items.

Polygon: 10 / 10 by Arthur Gies
I guess, in the end, it's not just that Breath of the Wild signals that Zelda has finally evolved and moved beyond the structure it's leaned on for so long. It's that the evolution in question has required Nintendo to finally treat its audience like intelligent people. That newfound respect has led to something big, and different, and exciting. But in an open world full of big changes, Breath of the Wild also almost always feels like a Zelda game — and establishes itself as the first current, vital-feeling Zelda in almost 20 years.
Tom's Guide: 5 / 5 by Sam Rutherford
Breath of the Wild isn't just one of the best Zelda titles ever made; it's something that comes along only once in a generation, and it's a game that everyone should play.
God is a Geek: 10 / 10 by Adam Cook
Breath of the Wild is an absolute masterpiece, and may well be the best The Legend of Zelda game ever made. Despite a few minor technical issues, this a truly unforgettable experience.
