Playing as goalkeeper in FIFA 19 FIFA 19 Guide and FUT Tips
Last update: 26 September 2018
The goalkeeper is the last defender in your defense and the only hope for not losing the goal in dangerous situations. During the game the goalkeeper has many possibilities to influence the course of the game, such as resuming the game with a distant kick, maintaining cooperation with the defensive line, defending penalty shots, and even move out from the goal box to save a situation.
- Distant kick of the ball
- Short kick of the ball
- Precision throw of the ball
- Resuming the game with a pass
- Moving from the goal box
- Defending the penalty shots
Distant kick of the ball
A distant kick is the least precise technique for restarting the game from your own goal box. Although this will keep you away from your own penalty area, you are never sure if you can take over the ball in the middle of the field. In order to make a distant kick, press the button responsible for the throw in and select the direction and strength of play. When doing a long distance kick, try to aim at the sector of the pitch where there are more players from your team in order to have the maximum chance of taking over the ball.
Short kick of the ball
A short kick is another technique that will allow you to resume the game from your own goal box. When restarting the game in this way, it is always worth paying attention to the position of the opponent's attackers, so that by accident they won't get the ball straight under their feet. While performing this action, try to direct the ball towards the side sectors of the pitch, so that in case of a mistake while receiving the ball it may escape from the pitch.
Precision throw of the ball
Precision throw is a simple and quick way to resume action and get out of the counter after recovering the ball. Precise throw should be used when you succeed in defending a shot or catching crosses and you want to quickly resume play by passing the ball to a nearest player. This way you can be sure that you will retain control of the ball and eliminate the randomness element that occurs when you resume a long kick. In order to resume the game with a throw, you need to press the key responsible for the pass and determine the direction and strength of the game. However, be careful not to throw the ball straight under your opponent's legs by mistake.
Resuming the game with a pass
Apart from the previously mentioned ways of restarting the game from your own goal box, you can also distinguish between restarting the game with a short pass. Such a game carries a considerable risk because it is easy to make a mistake here and pass the ball under the opponent's legs. Before passing the ball to the nearest defender, make sure that he's not pressed by one of the opposing players. To resume play with a short pass, press the pass button and choose the right direction.
Moving from the goal box
Moving Goalkeeper out the goal box is often the key to winning the situation when he's on his own. In order to perform this manoeuvre effectively, you have to wait for the right moment and react to the current situation on the pitch. A good moment for a goalkeeper's exit is the moment when the striker has released the ball too far away or when the pass to the running player is too long. Such moments are also a great opportunity to shorten the angle and limit the space in the net to which the ball could be directed. To move the goalkeeper out from the goal box area, press the button responsible for the exit of the goalkeeper.
Defending the penalty shots
When trying to defend a penalty shoot, luck is undoubtedly what counts. Considering the fact that during a penalty shootout it is possible to send the ball in many directions, it is difficult to develop any defensive tactics. It is always worth paying attention to which direction the opponent's player is facing and wait until the last second before throwing in that direction.
