Basics of defensive gameplay
Interestingly, a good defensive game is based on leaving the defenders alone and allowing them to carry out their work for a large part of the game. If there is a dangerous attack from the opponent, you should take control of them. Trying to collect the ball with midfielders also gives good results.
Switching a player
When the action moves deeper and deeper to your side of the pitch you have to react appropriately and change players to control a player as close to the ball as possible. Using the switch player button does not always bring satisfactory results, so in most cases it is better to use a second analog to determine the way of switching a player.
Picking up the ball
Simply picking up the ball is in many cases the most effective and safest way to reclaim the ball without exposing yourself to unnecessary risks, as in the case of sliding. It's most effective when the opponent is pointing directly at your player or when you're trying to pick up the ball from the side. In order to play this move you need to press the button responsible for picking up the ball.
Sliding tackles
Sliding tackle is by far the most risky attempt to pick up the ball, which in many cases may result in a warning, a yellow card, and in extreme cases even a red card and the exclusion of a player from the match. Before sliding, you have to make sure that you have taken the right angle of attack on the ball and that you won't foul the opponent. The slide must be made at a certain speed so as not to miss the attacking player. In order to make a slide, press the button responsible for this move.
Knocking out the ball from penalty area
If your opponents have created a dangerous situation in your penalty area and there is no time to take any decent action after taking over the ball, the best way is to kick it and move the ball away from the goal box. If you want to kick the ball out of the penalty area, press the button responsible for the shot or crossing. Remember not to kick the ball too close to the penalty area because the opponent can use this situation to shoot a very strong and dangerous shot.
