Pigs | Animal husbandry Farming Simulator 17 Guide
Last update: 23 November 2016
Pigs are a new introduction into Farming Simulator 17. It is a good idea to consider buying them, because their husbandry becomes profitable even at the beginning of the game, although profits are not too fast. Pigs eat nearly everything - the length of their reproduction cycle (which you can look up in the animals tab) depends on the type of feed, and this is the key factor of keeping them. Apart from natural manure, pigs do not yield any stable profit, you only sell excess pigs. Other animas also reproduce and can be sold, but pigs do not require much and you do not have to be that careful with them (and you still get free manure). Therefore, pigs are a good investment, but for it to turn out a profit, you have to attach some attention to them.
Also, pigs are the cheapest animals - $3,000/animal. They do not require too much attention, if you do farming on a daily basis. Simply, before you sell your produce, throw them some food from the tipper truck and proceed on. From time to time, you can clean their place, but too much care is recommended against - you will not profit much from keeping them. You cannot use a forage wagon, so you will have to use a shovel. However, if you want to cut profit in the initial phases and for the investment to pay for itself, buy a bag of pig food on palettes (you can pour it into the dump car right afterwards). It is a mixture of all the vegetables and is a guarantee of 100% efficiency (in spite of its high price of $1 400 per 1000l).
