- In a nutshell: a mix of turn-based strategy, roguelike and RPG
For the King is a video game that should satisfy fans of classic turn-based strategies in the style of the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic III. The authors have drawn inspiration from board games, the aforementioned classic of computer strategy as well as contemporary roguelikes, offering an extremely engaging hybrid of genres.
The gameplay model looks pretty similar to the other titles of this genre, which is by no means an accusation, because it works very well. You have a team of three heroes at your disposal. The whole party travels on a strategic map divided into hexes. Along the way, you explore new locations and take part in turn-based battles with encountered monsters. One of the most interesting features of the game is the hot seat multiplayer mode, which allows players to play long gaming sessions with their friends (and on one couch!).
The hot seat mode is a cooperative multiplayer, where each player takes control of one main character. The whole story campaign can be completed by playing together with friends. The main map of the story campaign is randomly generated each time a new game is launched. In other words, every adventure has its own unique character.
Console users may be pleased to know that last year the game was finally released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. If you decide to embark on an exciting journey and play For the King, then expect a charming, but slightly simplified graphics and a vast amount of content. The latter may overwhelm you at first, but in return it provides lots of fun for many hours.
