Command: Modern Operations Description
Command: Modern Operations is a strategy game which is a continuation of Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations released in 2013. The production shows the various war conflicts that have occurred on Earth since the end of the Second World War. Like the previous part, and all expansions to it, the game was developed by Warfare Sims studio. The publisher is Slitherine Ltd.
Mechanics
Command: Modern Operations is a strategy game in which we control troops participating in large-scale wars. Conflicts are shown on a map presenting the globe, with units marked as points. We have the ability to zoom in and out freely, so that we can carry out activities on different scales.
During the game we use a wide arsenal, as well as support and intelligence tools, including satellites. WarfareSims' production puts emphasis on realism - the goal is to reproduce the modern battlefield as faithfully as possible. We must take into account various factors resulting from geography and the climate in the war zone. The game is facilitated by the possibility of partial automation of certain decisions and aspects (including delegation of duties to officers controlled by a computer).
During proper clashes player has to show tactical sense and knowledge of both the opponent and the realities of the conflict. Opponents use various tactics and in order to be successful we must be able to predict their behaviour.
A number of changes and improvements have been made in comparison to the first part of the cycle. We received, among other things, the ability to adjust the formation of aircraft (developers also improved the flight model and artificial intelligence of fighters) and the way in which patrols move. A realistic system of communication between submarines has been added and the radar has been improved. Modern Operations also offers improved mechanics to reflect the impact of terrain type on the speed of movement, visibility and sensitivity of ground units.
Game modes
In Command: Modern Operations we can only play alone. The game is based on scripts prepared by the authors. There is also a new Quick Battle Generator mode available, which allows you to take part in a battles generated randomly based on a set of parameters.
Like the first part, the game also offers a powerful editor that allows you to create your own scenarios and modify existing ones.
Technical aspects
Command: Modern Operations presents itself similarly to the previous part of the series. The binding consists mainly of a three-dimensional map in the form of the globe and various screens of statistics. The whole is not very technologically advanced, but fulfils its basic task - it provides players with information necessary to make decisions. The game engine has been improved to eliminate the declines in animation fluidity during the fun. Also fixed is the user interface, which is now more clear.
