Order of Battle: World War II for PC, AND and iOS is a classic, turn-based strategy game, set in the realities of World War II. The game is a cooperation between a renown strategy games-publisher and a debuting independent studio called The Aristocrats, established by the developers of the warmly welcomed Panzer Corps series. The game has previously been known as Order of Battle: Pacific, but the devs decided to change the business model to free-to-play and change the title. As a result, the former campaign of the game has been divided into two paid DLCs: U.S. Pacific and Rising Sun. The new game supports all the DLCs that had been published, i.e. Morning Sun, U.S. Marines, and Winter War.
Mechanics
The goal of this game was to develop a complex, old-school strategy game, in which players can take part in many different battles of World War II. The core game, which can be acquired for free, contains a training camp (serving as a tutorial), and one scenario from each of the published DLCs. Purchasing the DLCs allows the player to play on both sides of the grand military conflict of 1939-45: America, Japan, China, Germany, Russia or Finland.
The gameplay is turn based, using classic hexagonal maps. The DLCs provide over 700 units of unique specializations; there are both the icons of World War II, available from the very beginning, and the famous prototypes, wchic appear later in the game. Infantry, artillery, armor, airplanes, and navy, all have their own animations and a unique appearance. The gameplay is complimented by an advanced, yet intuitive system of support and a few dozen legendary leaders, providing offensive and defensive bonuses for the units.
Game modes
Apart from singleplayer game modes consisting in the DLCs’ campaings, Order of Battle: World War II also can be played online. The multiplayer games are designed for 4 players in the hotseat or PBEM++ mode. Furthermore, there’s also Last Man Standing – team competition, or cooperation against AI.
Technical aspects
Released for PC, AND and iOS, Order of Battle: World War II combines an old-school gameplay designed for true strategists, with modern 3D graphics, complimented by dozens of animations and special effects. However, the lovers of classic gameplay can change camera view into a classic 2D table-top game. The game also contains an easy to handle scenario editor, which allows players to spend much more time with the game.
