Order of Battle: Morning Sun is a paid DLC to the turn-based strategy called Order of Battle: World War II, which was originally released in spring 2015 as Order of Battle: Pacific. A year later, the game was released in a free-to-play model and with a new title. Just like the original game, the expansion was developed by The Aristocrats, a Luxembourg-based studio.
Mechanics
Order of Battle: Morning Sun doesn't make any changes to the mechanics. Instead, it focuses entirely on a set of completely new scenarios and makes a few minor improvements. The action is set in the Pacific region, where we participate in the conflict that took place between 1937 and 1940, referred to as the Second Sino-Japanese War. We can command the Chinese army, which, despite being well-trained, suffers from internal problems and obsolete equipment. There is also an option to lead the Japanese army. Despite the experience and recent modernization, the Japanese are very overtired by subsequent conflicts - this results in a significant reduction in their combat efficiency.
The new campaign features 11 different scenarios, including the great battle of Shanghai in 1937. The DLC adds new units to the Japanese army, e.g. Ki-10, D1A and A4N1 bombers, medium tanks Type 89 and armoured vehicle Soko Sagyo Ki equipped with a flame thrower. The Chinese army uses weapons and vehicles made in Europe, making use of Soviet Polycarpow fighters, Tupolev bombers and T-26 tanks, German light tanks Panzer I, armoured vehicles Sdkfz 221/222 and 37mm PaK guns, as well as Italian tankettes L-3 and British fighters Gloster Gladiator.
Besides that, Morning Sun also adds new types of terrain, the possibility of building small runways and the introduction of horses, which are both a part of the cavalry and transport units.
