Another big expansion for the turn-based strategy game Order of Battle: Pacific developed by The Aristocrats. Similarly to the base game, the action of Order of Battle: Winter War takes place during WWII. This time the game concentrates on USSR’s aggression towards Finland, known as the Winter War.

Order of Battle: Winter War Description

Order of Battle: Winter War is another expansion to the free war strategy Order of Battle: World War II, which was originally released as Order of Battle: Pacific, a paid production but after a year from its release the game was transformed into a free-to-play game. The game was developed by The Aristocrats studio, the same developers that work on the original.

Mechanics

Order of Battle: Winter War is set during World War II, this time focusing on the relatively rarely described conflict between the USSR and Finland, commonly referred to as the titular Winter War. The Soviet aggression began at the end of November 1939 and was part of the implementation of the secret Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, in which the Third Reich recognized the territory of the Baltic States as a sphere of influence of the USSR. The Winter War contributed to considerable losses in the Soviet army and revealed all its weaknesses. It has also met with widespread condemnation on the international stage.

The campaign in Order of Battle: Winter War consists of a total of 14 completely new scenarios, including the titular war (1939-40), its follow-up called the Continuation War (1941-44), and its final phase - the Lapland War (1944-45). During the game, depending on the scenario conditions, we can lead Finnish, German or Russian troops to battle.

Continuing the tradition of the DLCs released in this series, Winter War adds previously unavailable units (over 90 units). Players can now choose from various iconic aircraft such as Bf-109, Fw-190, Yak-7, Il-2 Sturmovik and Fokker D.XXI. The battles take place on a slightly different type of terrain, which negatively affects the speed of movement of units, but also allows them to cross frozen lakes and rivers.
