Of all the crazy ideas of Hideo Kojima, it's the Metal Gear Solid series that seems to be the best compromise between the metaphor and the specific, pleasant gameplay loop. In addition, the story is coherent, can surprise, and makes players attached to the characters (after all, we end up witnessing most of their lives).
Each installment of the series emphasized different gameplay aspects. In some required more dexterity, others tactical thinking, and others were pretty heavy on cutscenes. Potential film adaptation would probably not cover all installments of the game. For starters, it would be best to begin with the spectacular part five, or create a coherent scenario combining the plot of several games.
The shooting is reportedly still in progress. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts said the script is in the works. But he said that in 2017. Despite this, Oscar Isaac, who's supposed to play Solid Snake, said quite recently that he still hopes to complete the film. And that we'll see it on the big screen in 2024. Fingers crossed! And if not, you can always ask Tom Cruise for help. Snake has to perform so many stunts that the actor would probably agree not only to direct, but also to perform in the lead role.
