The series of the Czech video game producer Mafia so far consists of three installments. However, the release of the fourth one is already planned. The main character is a taxi driver who, not entirely of his own free will, becomes a full-time driver for mafia. Eventually, he rises through the ranks, which, however, takes a toll on his private life. The game has many, increasingly complex plot twists, and its car chases, with perfectly reproduced vehicles from the era, remain the game's strongest suits even after years.
No one has made a serious proposal for a Hollywood adaptation of Mafia to the Czechs. There could be many reasons for that, including the fact that gangster cinema is one of the most hackneyed genres in Hollywood.
At least at the beginning, Mafia is very visibly inspired by cult gangster movies. And this can sometimes, especially when it comes to newer productions, discourage investment. But maybe someday one of the streaming platforms will be tempted. And if Martin Scorsese got involved in the production, we would have a surefire hit.
GTA is a franchise that's been winning the hearts of players for 26 years. But the owners of the IP aren't all crazy about a movie adaptation. Rockstar is concerned that this could actually weaken GTA's prowess. It's funny to indulge in trying to guess what age category a movie like that would get. Rockstar has already received an offer to shoot a GTA movie with Eminem in the lead role, but after several months of preliminary work, ended up rejecting it. The budget at the time was only estimated at $5 million.
