Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerilla Game, Sony Interactive Entertainment, 2017
  1. Game genre: post-apo action shooter with RPG elements
  2. Movie/TV series genre: science-fiction
  3. Potential creators: Denis Villeneuve
  4. Is a movie actually being made? No
  5. How long it's been waiting: 6 years

The Horizon Zero Dawn series is a ready formula for a Hollywood blockbuster. First, there are dinosaurs (mechanical, but it only adds another level of gimmickry), which always seem to sell well in movies, there's post-apocalyptic Earth, nomadic peoples who managed to survive a great war, and a skillful commentary on the devastation of our planet by corporations and governments. In addition, there's also a heroine destined by the gods of the old world (i.e. intelligent machines), capable of ending the long-lasting conflict that has been decimating both sides.

Aloy is a character that's hard not to like. She's not afraid of the challenges she poses and at the same time retains her humanity – she can afford sharp humor and typically human mistakes. Her ambiguous relationship with her mother figure could also an extremely interesting thread for viewers.

Denis Villeneuve as a potential director would provide the story with the right depth without unnecessary chest pounding. He would be able to make a film that's powerful and visually dazzling, and at the same time thought-provoking. I would die for a sci-fi movie like that, from the author of recent Dune.
