Boss: Vergil | 20: The End DMC: Devil May Cry Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
A duel with Vergil is very similar to fights with Dreamrunners. Dante's brother can block your attacks, so you have to play defensively and wait for an occasion to retaliate. Firstly, get to know boss' attacks. Very often Vergil throws white blades at Dante. At the beginning only one, but the number will grow up to four. Try to destroy them before they head for you. You can use gunfire (1st screen above) or Aquila (2nd screen above).
Vergil has also another ranged attack. He can throw bigger blades from the air or hit the ground strongly. In this case play also defensively and focus on evades, although you could try use Angel Lift or Demon Pull at him.
You can have a similar dilemma during Vergil's charges. You can retaliate them (for example with Eryx), but easier is to just avoid those attacks. Every mistake during counterattacks will cost you highly.
As it was during fights with Dreamrunners, attack Vergil after his failed attacks, when he is helpless for few seconds. I recommend to use a Stinger Ability connected with Rebellion (1st screen above). It let you reach Vergil quickly and perform a series of undefendable blows. If you don't have this ability, perform other strong attacks, for example using Eryx (2nd screen above).
Stop attacking Vergil when you notice that he starts blocking your hits. Move back and avoid his attacks waiting for another opportunity. As Vergil's health bar drops, some of his attacks grow stronger. It means that you have to play even more carefully.
As the time passes, Vergil will gain new attacks. Especially avoid a series of three blades, over which you should jump (1st screen above) and his attack which makes a group of blades appear in the particular place (2nd screen). In the latter case keep moving and press a dodge button just before he attacks.
The last new thing is an appearance of Vergil's look-alike. It happens first when Vergil loses about 2/3 of health bar. A new enemy means troubles. If you begin to attack the double, then, besides getting damaging Vergil, you'll obtain Devil Trigger orbs. But the better idea is to focus on Vergil, as he'll try to regenerate in the meantime. The double will disappear after a few moments.
Continue attacking Vergil until he loses almost all health bar. He should kneel and summon a double again. Launch Devil Trigger immediately, ignore the look-alike and attack helpless Vergil (screen above). Single blow will give you a victory. Remark: if you don't have enough energy to activate a Devil Trigger, then focus on double. But you have to know that Vergil will be regenerating, so don't waste to much time or the encounter will be elongated.
Now you can enjoy winning the game. Congrats!
