Basim, the main character of AC Origins, grew up on the streets of Baghdad as a street thief. A skilled thief means that the game's protagonist can easily get rich by pickpocketing purses of unsuspecting citizens. This page will help you understand the basic rules of the pickpocketing mechanic. You will also find out how the auto theft option available in the settings menu works.
How does theft work?
You can start stealing very early into the game, during the game's prologue.
To successfully steal, find a person among the crowds roaming the streets of Baghdad and then approach them from behind. When you are at the right distance, a text bubble will appear above the victim along with a key/button for stealing. Press the appropriate button to steal.
Potential theft victims can be recognized by the pouches worn at their waist. If you scan the area with Eagle's Vision, they will also glow with a faint light.
The Quick Time Event window will appear. Your task is to properly match a quickly scaling symbol to a larger template. The outer rhombus will gradually begin to get smaller, and the goal is to stop the object when it reaches the blue field. You will stop the figure with the same button that you initiated pickpocketing.
If you manage to pass the QTE sequence, the action will end successfully, and the stolen items will end up in your inventory. However, if you fail to land the diamond in the blue field, the NPC being robbed will realize the situation and start calling for help. In such a situation, the best solution is to run away to avoid the alerted guards.
How does automatic theft work?
If you are not a fan of the QTE mechanics or have a problem with the thief mini-game, you can completely disable it. To do this, go to the settings menu and then the "Gameplay" tab. Here you will find the option to enable or disable the guaranteed theft. Choose the option that interests you, then save the new settings by clicking "Apply".
Activating automatic theft will override all other settings related to this mechanic resulting from the chosen difficulty level.
From now on, after approaching an NPC and pressing the button responsible for theft, you will skip the QTE sequence and get the items right away.
