Minor bosses in Zelda Breath of the Wild Zelda Breath of the Wild guide, walkthrough
Last update: 18 June 2019
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there are some beasts more powerful than regular opponents that can be counted as lesser bosses. Below, you will find the description of the ways you can fight them.
THere are four lesser bosses in the game. This group includes: Talus, Hinox, Molduga, Lynels. These opponents are much stronger than ordinary monsters and you have to fight them using special tactics. In addition, most of these opponents come in different varieties, some even more demanding. Below you will find a description of the fight against each enemy:
Talus
Occurs in such options: Stone Talus, Light Stone Talus, Rare Stone Talus, Ingeno Talus, Frost Talus.
Tips and tricks for fighting:
- Taluses use powerful stones that are thrown in Link's direction. This type of attacks take a lot of hearts, and are not easy to avoid, so it is best to use a sprint, and bet on a quick reduction of distance.
- It is necessary to use the bomb rune and to use them to destroy enemy's hands - enemy will collapse, get stunned, and you can climb on it.
- When you find yourself on the back of the enemy, you need to destroy a special crystal. This will take a lot of enemy's HP. It is best to use a weapon, which is used by default to destroy rocks - for example, a sledgehammer, cobble crushers etc. such items will cause increased damage to the crystal, which may help you in defeating this enemy.
- Sometimes Talus has a crystal in other part of his body - then you don't need to climb on him, although to reach the stone, you'll have to use a long-range melee weapon (preferably spear).
- The basic version of Talus will cause damage by direct contact. It is best to use a weapon/arrows of opposite elements, in order to neutralize the opponent. After that you will be able to apply strategy with bombs and climbing on his back.
- For defeating Talus you get a lot of precious crystals and materials. When you specialize in rapid killing of Taluses, you can easily gain a lot of Rupees.
Hinox
Hinox may be encountered in various options: Hinox, Blue Hinox, Black Hinox, Stalnox.
Tips and tricks for fighting:
- Typically, you'll come across sleeping Hinoxes that you can use to your advantage: you can sneak up on an enemy, use a charged attack with a strong two-handed weapon, and deal a lot of damage. In addition, before your opponent is ready to fight, you can attack him a few more times, which will accelerate the battle.
- Also, when the boss is sleeping, you can track his eye and attack him with explosive arrows. It is better to use a bow with damage multiplier and use bombs, arrows to do a lot of damage. After the shot, run up to the enemy and attack him before he is ready to counterattack.
- If you don't want to fight the enemy, you can sneak up on the boss (if you have stealth armor/stealth potions) and steal his equipment.
- When the enemy starts to attack you, keep a safe distance and try to aim the shots in the eye of the enemy. After a while he will start to cover them, but just continue to depart and wait for the right moment to attack. Accurate shot stuns the enemy, so be sure to reduce the distance and attack it with a strong weapon.
- To destroy the bone variant of the enemy, at the end of the battle you have to destroy his eye.
Molduga
There's only one option of this type of enemy.
Tips and tricks for fighting:
- Molduga is a beast prowling under the sand which preys on its victims by attacking from under the ground. This type of attacks are very strong and you have to avoid them at all costs. When you come across a sand trail and see that the enemy is trying to attack you, instantly find the stone and move to it.
- When you find yourself on a surface other than sand, prepare a round bomb and throw it at the enemy. Over Molduga appears a question mark, and the beast will swallow the bomb. Quickly blow the charge so the monster gets stunned for a long time. Quickly run up to the enemy and use strong charging attacks to cause a lot of damage. When it wakes up, go back to the safe place and continue the strategy with bombs.
- If you feel adventurous, you can fight the enemy using bow and bombs arrows. All you have to do is stay on the sand and avoid enemy attacks by shooting arrows into the mouth of the beast. Such attacks will stun the enemy and allow to strike with direct weapons.
Lynels
These can be encountered in such variants: Lynel, Blue-Maned Lynel, White-Maned Lynel.
Talus, Hinox, Molduga, Lynels.
Tips and tricks for fighting:
- These centaurs, resembling a beast, are one of the most difficult opponents in the game. They are very strong, fast and have quite a lot of health points. Fighting them is a big challenge and always worth a good preparation before the fight.
- When you happen to be nearby, Lynels will begin a series of attacks: begin to implement strong strikes, overhead attacks and powerful charges. To cope with this kind of attacks, you need to master perfect guard/perfect dodge and learn enemy attacks. Train with a few fights with weaker variations of Lynels to learn how to counter its attacks,
- Stronger varieties of Lynels can throw fire-spheres and strike weapons on the ground, creating explosions. These attacks are especially dangerous. Avoid them, because they mind end Link's life.
- The enemy is very skillful archer from a distance and will shoot at you with arrows of different elements. Here I should add that the enemy is very precise and the duel "on arrows" may end up bad for you.
- Lynels can be met quite quickly, especially if you like to explore the game world. Remember that fighting them is difficult, and if you can't handle it, then give yourself time to get the best gear and armor improvements.
- If you really feel adventurous, you can apply the following strategies - right after perfect dodge/perfect guard, take out your bow and instantly point the arrow at the enemy's head. If you hit the head, the enemy will be stunned for a few precious moments, allowing you to strike him hard. However, this tactic requires a lot of practice, because you do not have much time to aim at the enemy. In addition, try to shoot at the enemy when he prepares one of his special attacks, which usually takes him some time,
- Urbosa's Fury comes handy here. This you'll get at the end of Vah Naboris dungeon. Electric attacks stun the enemy for a long time and do a lot of damage. The best option is to face Lynels with all three additional power up abilities.
