Unlocking the quest
You can unlock this quest while in Beauclair. Near the Nilfgaardian Embassy in the southwestern part of the city (M4,17) Geralt can encounter Jacquette. After you initiate the conversation with the young woman you will learn that her fiancé has disappeared after he went looking for a monster called Grottore. You can agree to find Francois or first ask Jacquette about the Grottore and negotiate the payment.
Find Francois
Francois is located in a small camp west from Tourney Grounds in the western part of Toussaint (M2,15). Once you reach the destination, wake him up and go with him to Grottore's cave.
Find Grottore using your Witcher senses
Activate Witcher Senses and start looking through the cave. You must examine the large plants, the bones on the ground, the tools, the candle and the shoots that block access to the next cave. After hearing Geralt's commentary start burning the large plants by using Igni. You must destroy them in three different places of the cave. This will provoke Grottore to come out from hiding.
Defeat Grottore
Before you start the battle with Grottore, try using relic oil on your silver sword. Additionally, check if Geralt has some dimeritium bombs and set Igni as the active Witcher Sign. Grottore is able to perform attacks with his long limbs (on medium and long distance) and he can quickly move from place to place. Attack him between his actions and whenever it is possible use the mentioned bomb and Igni.
After some time archespores will join the fight. You must think how to behave when that happens. If you play on one of the lower difficulties, you can ignore them since the battle will end automatically once you kill the Grottore. On higher difficulties the duel takes longer and you should take care of archespores. As a reminder: attack the archespores only when they are looking like open flower and help yourself with Igni sign. When their flower is closed, keep away so that you won't receive damage when the flower explodes.
As it was said, you will win the battle when Grottore dies. A new conversation with Francois will start. It will determine the ending of the quest.
Option A - Convincing Francois to return to Jacquette with Grottore trophy
If you choose this option, then select the first dialogue option. Geralt will convince Francois to stop trying to find a worthy monster to defeat and to return to Jacquette with Grottore trophy. You should go to Beauclair as well. Speak to Jacquette who will be happy about the preparations to wedding. The woman will give you the payment.
Option B - Keeping the Grottore trophy for yourself
If you want to choose this option, then select the second dialogue option. Geralt will ignore Francois plans and he will keep the Grottore trophy - +5% finding additional herbs. In this case as well you must return to Jacquette in Beauclair. She will tell you that Fancois started another journey and she will give you the payment.
Alternative ending
During the battle with Grottore health bar of Francois is visible on the screen. Geralt's ally shouldn't be the main target of the monster, but if you manage very poorly in combat then Francois can die. In that case you must deliver bad news to Jacquette.
