Arberrang | Chapter 14 The Banner Saga 2 Guide
Last update: 01 February 2017
After your arrival in Arberrang, you will witness a strife between the king and Rugga. You will have to support one of the sides. Keep in mind that, if you decide to back up the king, half of your heroes will leave (all giants). Below, you can find your options concerning this.
The screenshot presents the exact moment at which you have to choose between the king and Rugga.
- "My banner, my people, are my only concern" - In this option, you back up the king.
- "Rugga's right. Too many people will die out here for so few inside" - In this option, you back up Rugga. As a result, 27 clansmen and 21 warriors leave you. Additionally, you lose all of the Varls.
Back up the king
If you pick the first option, i.e. "My banner, my people, are my only concern", a battle against your own heroes starts. Therefore, if you have been leveling up characters like Hakon, the battle may be one of the most difficult ones. You will then be rewarded with 20 renown points, after you win.
Next, you will have to fight another battle. However, you can prepare yourself properly for that, which will give you a slight edge in the battlefield. As a result of "You heard him, charge!", the battle will play out in a standard way. As a result of the second option - "I want archers behind those barricades!", archers will stand behind barricades and this may have an impact on the course of the battle. The third option - "Horseborn! Run in and take out this bear master!", Canary strikes the enemy outside of the queue, at the beginning of the battle. However, no matter what you chose, you will have to win the battle. Therefore, position your archers behind barricades and use the help of the king, who can charge at the enemy. His ability allows him to transfer damage taken over to all the guardsmen in the battlefield. For winning the battle, you will be rewarded with 26 renown points.
Back up Rugga
If you decide on "Rugga's right. Too many people will die out here for so few inside", a battle with the king's men will start. At this point, nobody will leave you, so you can pick all of your current heroes.
Note! During the battle, focus your attacks on the king's guardsmen. If you attack the king, all of the damage dealt will be distributed among the guards (in equal proportions), so this is the least effective tactic. After you win the battle, the king will escape and you will receive 16 renown points.
Just like in the case of the first option, you will have to fight yet another battle. At this point, you can gain a slight edge in the battlefield, by picking the recommended dialogue option.
- "You heard him! Charge the gates!" - The battle takes on the standard course, with no advantages.
- "Oddleif! I need you to take out those archers!" - You command Oddleif to deal with the archers on the barricade. This way, you eliminate the unnecessary enemy forces.
- "Separate the king from his guard! Canary!" - Command Canary to start the battle and strike outside of the queue.
- "Hakon! The barrier will choke us off!" - You command Hakon to destroy the barricade protecting the king. Unarguably, this is the best option if you have several giants in the party. The barricade will not limit your moves then, which translates directly into the result of the battle.
Regardless of your decision, you will have to fight the king and his guards. Remember to deal with the guards in the first place also in this case. Leave the king himself for the very end. For winning the battle, you will receive 18 renown points.
