Skills in The Sinking City The Sinking City guide, walkthrough
Last update: 25 June 2019
This chapter in our guide to The Sinking City contains the most important information regarding the skills. Here, you will learn how to unlock skills and how to get XP. We have also prepared a list of our recommended abilities.
How to get XP?
The best way to get a large amount of XP is to complete main and side cases. A single case can give you more than 1,000XP.
Another good method is to kill monsters. The amount of received XP depends on the type of creature you have killed. The bigger and stronger, the more XP you get.
You don't get XP for killing humans, even when they are hostile towards Reed. However, you can get XP by completing parts of cases related to them.{/ramkaniebieska}
Another good method is related to monsters - more precisely to the Infested Areas. You get XP by finding these areas and by killing any monster found in those places.
Look for rare artifacts hidden in the Infested Areas. Each of these items is worth a lot of XP.
Besides the methods mentioned above, you can also get XP by achieving 100% completion in locations. Namely, locations visited during cases and marked on the map with a magnifying glass icon. You need to find all interactive tracks and analyze them (provided you can do that). Explore an entire location to get several hundred of XP.
How to get Knowledge Points?
Knowledge Points are received every time you collect enough XP to level up. All skills are worth 1 Knowledge Point. Sadly, you can't access all the skills right away. Those located further on the tree require you purchase the preceding ones first.
The best starting skills
The table below contains the list of skills that you should get when you are still early into the game. We have tried to include skills that don't have any abilities preceding them.
SKILL NAME | DESCRIPTION AND COMMENTARY |
Extra Clip (Vigor tree) | You can carry additional 7 pistol rounds. The ammo limit is rather strict meaning that it is easy to get full inventory. This skill will help you with this problem. |
Field Medic (Vigor tree) | You can carry 1 additional First Aid Kit and Antipsychotic. Extra first aid kit is especially useful since your character doesn't have to restore full health with a single first aid kit. |
Deep Pockets (Vigor tree) | You can carry extra 6 revolver rounds. The limit for this type of ammunition is even more strict than with pistols. This skill will help you a lot. |
Unnatural Recovery (Vigor tree) | You restore a few health points when you are near death. This skill is very helpful in keeping Reed alive, especially since attacks done by stronger enemies can kill you fast. |
Abnormal Endurance (Vigor tree) | Reed has more health. If you need, you can purchase another skill called Eldritch Endurance to get even more health points. |
Smart Packing (Mind tree) | You can carry 25 units of each of the crafting materials. It is easy to reach the inventory limit. When that happens, you won't be able to collect new loot. |
Absolute Clarity (Mind tree) | You get more XP and remain calm for a longer period. Both bonuses are useful, especially the XP since you will be able to level up faster. We also recommend getting another two skills from this tree - Detective Analysis and Deductive Method. In total, you can get 15% more XP. |
No Charity (Mind tree) | 50% chance of getting double the reward after completing a case. If you also get Silver Tongue skill, the double reward will be guaranteed. Think about getting this skill, especially since some cases reward you with ammo, traps or first aid kits. |
