Which tree and skills are worth choosing in The Council? | Gameplay basics The Council Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 15 March 2018
At the beginning of the game you have to pick a class - Diplomat, Occultist or Detective. Each of the classes has a completely different set of skills which are useful in different situations which means that it is difficult to determine which class is the best. Your choice of a skill tree doesn't block you from accessing skills from other trees - they only become more expensive to develop but they are still usable. The classes can be described as follows:
- Diplomat - this class is great when you are with other people. Can avoid questions, has geopolitics knowledge and knows foreign languages. This is the best class for dialogs and confrontations.
- Occultist - can manipulate other characters, open locks, steal items and has knowledge about religions and mysticism. Occultist is the best for more shady actions - he can browse through others' belongings and relies on manipulation.
- Detective - a great observer. Can notice peculiar behaviors, elements and details invisible to others. Besides that, this is the only class that works great during confrontations solved with force. Detective is the best for solving puzzles.
Every class is completely different. You can't make your character to be universal. There are numerous situations when your character won't have the right ability which means that you will have to deal with it in a different way. The best solution is to focus on one way of developing your character but don't forget to put a few points into other trees. Among all of the skills there are three that are really useful in the first few chapters. Buy them regardless of your preferred class:
- Diversion from Diplomacy tree - allows you to distract attention and avoid difficult questions.
- Manipulation from Occultist tree - you can make characters do certain tasks.
- Psychology from Detective tree - helps you understand other characters better.
Of course, these aren't the best abilities but they are used rather frequently during conversations.
