Chapter 3 Episode 1 The Mad Ones - Guide The Council Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 15 March 2018
This page contains a walkthrough for chapter 3 - Wines and cannons. The parts that are worth special mention are:
- How to read the hidden text?
- Confrontation with Elizabeth Adams.
- Confrontation with Napoleon Bonaparte.
The chapter starts in your room where you have to search for clues left by your mother. You can look around the entire room and collect items but the most important object is the bookshelf presented in the picture. Approach it and activate. You find one of your mother's most favorite books. Inside, there is a hidden text and your task is to find a way to read it.
How to read the hidden text?
Start by going on the balcony and activate the lemon tree. This will remind the hero about the ancient art of hiding texts.
Go back to the room where you have started this chapter. Take the candle stick from the table. Return to the book and select Burnish the page with the candle stick option. This reveals the text. Note - you can use other options, e.g. by using ashes collected from the fireplace. Don't do that because you will destroy a part of the message. Using the candle stick is the only right choice.
Read the message from mother. A servant knocks on your door and informs you about the meal. Go down on the lower floor. You meet Elizabeth Adams on the stairs:
Bring up her malaise in the salon. |
Ask her about her eye. |
Say nothing. |
Ask why she's interested. |
Admit your mother has gone missing. |
Change the subject. |
Say that you know. |
What do you mean? |
Confrontation with Elizabeth Adams
Shortly after that the conversation turns into a confrontation. The dialog lines listed below will help you win:

After that you have to reach the door presented in the picture above.
You participate in a banquet with all other guests of Lord Mortimer. At some point you can either Ask Washington what he thinks of Wollner or Ask Emily what she thinks of Wollner.
Later, Napoleon Bonaparte will want to speak to you in private.
Confrontation with Napoleon Bonaparte
Shortly after starting the conversation with Bonaparte you will have to participate in a confrontation. He wants to test your knowledge on armament and politics. The dialog lines listed below will help you win this confrontation:
No, I cannot agree on such a deal. |
It would need a counter-revolution! |
If you win, Bonaparte will give you a book that increases your skills. You and Napoleon go back to the table to listen to Washington's speech. After that the chapter will end.
