- Conversation with Giuseppe Piaggi about the letter to your mother.
The chapter opens with the main character's vision. Watch this short cut-scene. Then, head to the doors and let George Washington in. He suggests you to distract Elizabeth Adams - he wants to search her room while you are talking with her. This is an important choice - you can Help George Washington or not and instead go to the room that you saw in your vision (Investigate about your vision).
Investigate about your vision
In this choice you have to find the room from the vision. Find the room with a servant in front of it in the hallway (presented in the picture above). Speak to the man and select Give the servant a task option. Louis tells the man that he can't sleep. The servant suggests Holm's elixir - you need to recall its ingredients that you have heard during the previous chapter. The right answer is Pepper mint, lime-flower and valerian.
The servant goes to the kitchen. This is your chance to enter the room. You now have to find a way to check out what is happening in the adjacent room. Go to the doors to the balcony (presented in the picture) and interact with them.
On the balcony you can overhear a conversation between Napoleon Bonaparte and Lord Mortimer. Listen to the dialog carefully because the information that you get here will be useful during the later stages of the game.
After that you have to go back to the room. However, you are caught by Emily Hillsborrow. This starts a confrontation during which you (literally) have a knife to your throat. The table below shows dialog lines that will help you win this confrontation:
Swear your innocence. |
Reassure her. (requires Psychology) |
Worry about her. |
Share the information. |
Then, you have to go back to your room.
Help George Washington
Talk with Washington and then reach the hallway. Go down on the lower floor by using the stairs.
You are in the room with the fireplace (you were here during the first chapter). You see the cardinal who wants to know what is happening behind the door. Approach him. You learn that Elizabeth Adams is arguing with somebody and that she probably is in danger. Enter inside - you see Jacques Peru who harasses Elizabeth.
Insult him. |
Yes, you just remind him where he is. (requires Etiquette) |
Do not make the situation worse. |
Console Elizabeth. (requires Manipulation) |
Do nothing. |
Leave the room after a short conversation. Speak with Washington again.
Defend mother's honor. |
Let Washington explain. |
Yes, in the name of duty. |
No. |
Refuse Washington's account. |
Accept Washington's version. |
After that you have to go to your room.
Conversation with Giuseppe Piaggi
Regardless of your choice you come across Giuseppe Piaggi who is waiting near your room. He forgot to write down one more person and he wants to do it now. Simply refuse if you have opened the letter at the end of the chapter one. This can cost you Giuseppe's trust. You can also Lie to him but this requires Diversion skill. Go back to your room - you have completed
