Skill points are obtained for completing missions in the storyline. You can spend them in a way you want on the skill tree, however, you have to do it by following the lines on the tree. You can choose your abilities only by a special table. While distributing points, you can also decide to reset your abilities - you then receive all of the points back and you can redistribute them.

Finishing a mission for the second time will win you only those points that you have not obtained the first time around. You will also receive additional points for completing side missions and finding Insignia. Insignia are special decorations that you receive for completing missions in accordance with their objectives. There are three tiers: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The better the Insignium, the more points you receive for obtaining it, but the more difficult to obtain it is. You do not have to obtain all of the insignia for a single mission at the first playthrough - each time you replay a mission, you can obtain new ones and improve your results for the previous ones. At the same time, your overall results are not changed, if you failed to emulate your previous result.
