Mission 8: Exclusion Zone | Walkthrough ReCore Guide
Last update: 17 October 2016
Road to Eden Tower
When you regain control over your character, you'll find yourself on a desert, between the rock ledges. Turn round, and you'll find a transport pod on the hill found on the left side. You can use it to return to Crawler and upgrade your companions. While standing near the transport, take a look at the periodically stronger and weaker light under the wall on the left, near the edge. It's a yellow Cellbot, which once activated will fly to his socket by himself. After activation, follow the green indicator.
K-9 Paladin attacks can stun Joule and drain health points very quickly.
Along the way to your destination, you can encounter a few red K-9s, as well as yellow and blue SP-DR. Finally, you'll reach a destroyed bridge located above the abyss. Once you cross it, you will be attacked by a new enemy - violet K-9 Paladin. It's a very powerful enemy - his basic attacks stun Joule temporarily, exposing her to further attacks, and he has a very powerful charge attack that is hard to avoid. Additionally, he has a lot of health points, so this encounter may last much longer than usual. When you deal with him, take a look at the visible red audio-log nearby, located near the container. Once you take it, follow the objective marker.
Find a Way Through
The path is blocked by a huge shard of rock covered with green, phosphorous veins. This marks the next point to which you need to get access to. While following the objective indicator, you'll be attacked by a yellow and a red K-9. Once you defeat them, take a look at the tower nearby - there is a chest with upgrades for your companion. Additionally, there is a round socket with the prismatic core on the plateau. As always, you'll be attacked when attempting to remove the core - this time, by three blue K-9s. As this isn't enough, the combat area will be restricted by the energy barrier. Once you win the fight, don't forget to remove the core from the chamber, and take a look on the sand near the sphere - there is a darkened circle nearby. If you use Mack's ability, he will retrieve a rare item for you. You can also gather some resources for upgrades from a nearby wall. When you finish scrambling for resources, continue following the objective indicator.
You'll see a strange, old Crawler when you climb onto the ledge.
After about fifteen meters you'll reach a ramp leading to the rock ledge. Using Seth, shoot up in its direction. You'll notice a crawler with a strange armor. Before you enter it, gather the resources lying around. Once you enter the Crawler, a short cut-scene awaits, and after it you'll receive a new companion - AP-3 Duncan. He is necessary to continue the adventure. The game will ask for your companion of choice when you attempt to leave the Crawler.
Destroying obstacles is Duncan's special ability.
When you leave the Crawler, look to the left - there is a passageway blocked by some stones. When you approach them, you can use Duncan's special ability - destroying the obstacles blocking the way. When cross the unlocked arch, you'll be attacked by a few blue SP-DRs. It's a great opportunity to try the battle functionalities of your new companion. Duncan can create fire rings around him, dealing damage to any enemy in the vicinity, and burning them. Once you defeat the enemies, take a look at the stones located near the edge of the cliff. Order Duncan to destroy them, revealing a health upgrade. Then, return to the area where you fought the spiders, and use the robot's abilities once again to clear the column to unlock the way further.
Duncan will easily clear a blocked passage.
Locate the red audiolog on the rock ledge. When you pick it up, take a look at enemy K-9 swarming at the bottom. From such distance, auto-aim won't reach the robots, but you can shoot them normally. This way, you can deal some damage to them before they approach you. When you get rid of them, jump to the bottom and proceed to your objective. Along the way, you'll be attacked by a violet K-9 with two helpers, but Duncan's battle ability can stun them. Mixed with your charged attack, the enemy problem should quickly disappear. Once you reach the blocked passage, order your companion to destroy it and continue along the way.
Shifting Sands
While standing on the tunnel's turn, look to your left, and open a chest hidden there. Turning right will lead you to a huge open location. It's the only path to Eden Tower, and probably the biggest open area in the game. You can travel around Shifting Sands at will, but remember that the enemies respawn constantly around the area. The whole location has many resources and prismatic cores to find. The approximate locations of the cores can be found on the map attached to the guide.
To enter the next dungeon, The Warren, you need to have at least 15 cores, while Joule has to be on level 16. You should spend some time on this desert, gather everything that you can get your hands on, and upgrade your character and your companions as well as you can. The core locations marked on the map often require using a special ability of one of your companions, so it may be required to return to the nearest transport pod, and exchange Duncan for Mack and Seth, as the newest companion is required only while approaching number 8 on the map. Remember that if you ran out of space in your inventory, you can always return to Crawler in any given moment, by getting inside the equipment menu, and pressing the return button.
If you decide to return to Crawler, you should look around the area where he is located. Here, you can find four prismatic cores that require both Duncan and Seth:
You need Seth to reach the first core.
The first core is very close to Crawler's location. Right after leaving Crawler, go in the direction of the big mountain. There is a ramp on the side that is usable by Seth. It leads to the summit, where a capsule awaits you. Aside from the capsule, on the mountain flank from the base's side, there is a hidden chest with blueprints.
The second core is located below the mountain, opposite to Crawler, and is very close to the partially buried construct. Once you destroy the stones using Duncan's ability, you'll be attacked by a Corebyte Caterpillar. Despite the high durability, it is not a dangerous enemy, and you need to remember that to defeat him, you need to destroy all his elements. When you destroy the last part, the enemy will drop a prismatic core.
The third core can be found under the stones, by the path that you've used when you arrived at your base for the first time. To acquire it, after leaving Crawler go to the familiar path created from rock ledges. The stones which can be destroyed can be found on the hill, in the middle of the way to the tunnel.
The last, fourth core from this location is used to power a special SP-DR, guarded by two yellow robots of the same type. They are located on the right from the gate leading to Lonely Basin. After defeating two yellow SP-DRs, an Iron Fang clone will emerge from the ground. Similarly to the previous encounter, it cannot be destroyed, but you need to remove the core when the enemy's health points will fall down to 30%.
Additional cores are also hidden in Lonely Basin. Before you proceed to that location, return to Crawler and upgrade your companions if you gathered enough resources to be able to do that. Then, change the team to Duncan and Mack, and teleport under the Pylon (or to the teleport located farther to the east, if you visited it earlier).
Starting from under the Pylon, go east, until you reach the transport pod. There is a capsule with a core a few meters to the north, guarded by some SP-DRs. Once you defeat them, attempt to remove the core, which will result in the appearance of three blue K-9s and creating an energy field that restricts the combat zone. When you defeat all the enemies, remove the core from the capsule.
You'll need three Cellbots to retrieve the core.
There is a huge rock arch to the south from the transport pod. Underneath, an encounter with 20lvl blue SP-DR awaits. Once you defeat him, you should notice a hovering brick. It houses another core, but to unlock it, you'll need at least six Cellbots. They can be found around the area, both under, and on the arch. The first can be found a few meters further, on a rock ledge, while the next four are hidden in various locations on the arch appearing before you. One of them is especially well hidden - it is located on a top of a somewhat isolated area of the rocks found on the right from the main mountain range.
Here, Mack will dig out a prismatic core.
The next core is located to the north from your location. There is a visible round area in the sand right by the edge. Use Mack's ability and he will dig another prismatic core for you.
One of the cores is hidden in a short tunnel a few meters to the north from the Pylon's entrance. It is hidden under a ledge, and it's a part of the building. You'll find some stones inside that need to be smashed by Duncan, and a special AP-3 who is hidden there. As always when encountering this type of enemies, you cannot destroy it, but only weaken and remove the core, which will result in its explosion.
If you followed the guide, you should now have 18 cores. It's an adequate amount to enter The Warren. You can now gather more cores using the map or by completing the previously unvisited dungeons, or continue with the plot. If you meet all the requirements of the next mission, choose Seth and Duncan, and return to Shifting Sands.
Keep to the right side while traversing the desert. You'll reach a huge robot hand along the way. There is a blue audiolog under the hand, and a lot of resources and a chest on top of it. You should take a look around the area especially if your character doesn't meet the requirements for the dungeon.
Use Duncan's and Seth's abilities to reach your destination easily.
When you reach the vicinity of your destination, you'll discover that the entrance is located high above the level you're currently standing on. To reach the entrance, find a lever nearby that can be thrust in the ground by Duncan. It will create a ramp that can be used by Seth. As a result, you'll land on a rise where you'll need to repeat the same actions. It will lead you to the gates of The Warren, right near the transport pod. Sadly, the door is locked, and you need three Cellbots to unlock them. Fortunately, they can be found nearby - the first is located right underneath the gate of The Warren. The second one is on the left, underneath the chest containing blueprints for the blue set for Duncan. The third one lies on the right side, on one of the ledges. Once you bring them all to the gate, you'll be able to proceed to the next mission.
