Lost Judgment: Combat Lost Judgment guide, walkthrough

This tutorial page covers the basics of combat in Lost Judgment.

Last update: 04 February 2022

On this page of the Lost Judgment guide, we cover the basics of combat. Here you will learn more about fighting styles, EX Boost and EX actions.

The basics of combat

  1. Attacks

The two basic buttons are normal attack (Square/X) and strong attack (Ttriangle/Y). The speed and strength of these attacks depend on the fighting style that is currently active. Each style offers different attacks and combinations.

  1. Fighting stance

By assuming a fighting stance (holding R1/RB), you will automatically target the nearest enemy, and be able to block his attacks. Some attacks require you to assume a fighting stance.

  1. Guard

You can block attacks by pressing L1/LB, provided the enemy is in front of you. Only the Snake Style allows you to block attacks from all directions. Attacks with melee or ranged weapons cannot be blocked.

Sometimes, the enemies can break your guard, either with charged attacks or if you remain inactive for too long and your guard starts to waver.

  1. Dodges

While in a fighting stance (R1/RB), you can perform a Dodge, simply by pressing X/A and moving the left analog stick in any direction.

By dodging, Yagami can find himself behind the enemy - any attack will deal more damage when you are behind the opponent. If you manage to press X/A at the right moment during an enemy attack, you will perform a Perfect Dodge.

  1. Picking items/Grappling

When Yagami is near an object that he can pick up, a circle/B icon will appear above the object. The carried object can be used as a weapon or shield. Pressing Circle/B again will cause Yagami to throw the held object at the opponent. Yagami can pick up weapons dropped by an enemy and sometimes perform special EX actions that require a weapon.

While close to the enemy, Yagami can grab him and wrestle him to the ground. In Snake Style, when you grab an enemy you can deprive them of the weapon they are currently holding.

Fighting styles

The current fighting style is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen - Lost Judgment: Combat - Basics - Lost Judgment Guide

The current fighting style is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. You can change the style at any time by pressing directional button down. Yagami's aura color corresponds with the currently chosen style. All styles have their strengths and weaknesses, so we recommend trying out and choosing the style that fits you best.

  1. Crane Style - effective against large groups of enemies. The hero hits with fast attacks that have a wide range, while his EX actions deal damage to multiple enemies at once. Skydancer abilities (hold L1/LB X/B) allow counters and can be a beginning of an aerial EX action.
  2. Tiger Style - ideal for one-on-one combat. Yagami unleashes powerful and charged attacks that can deal significant damage and break the enemy's guard. To perform a charged attack, press Square/X repeatedly, then hold down Triangle/Y.EX actions performed in this style focus on destroying a single target;
  3. Snake Style - created specifically with armed opponents in mind. Yagami can perfectly parry or deflect enemy attacks, as well as disarm them with various techniques. The EX Surrender action, available only in Snake Style, allows you to instantly eliminate a frightened enemy.To take the weapon away from your opponent, grab him by pressing Circle/B, and then press Circle/B again when the prompt appears on the screen.

You cannot disarm bosses or other powerful opponents.

  1. Boxing - a style that specializes in rapid punches targeted at a single opponent. Moreover, you can stagger the enemy thanks to perfect guard Additional skills for this style are available for purchase from Coach Todoroki as theBoxing Gymstory progresses.

To have access to this style, you need to have the School Stories Expansion Pack DLC.

EX actions

EX Actions are special attacks that can quickly take out normal enemies or deal a lot of damage to stronger enemies.

When the Triangle/Y appears in the center of the screen, press the appropriate button to trigger an EX action - Lost Judgment: Combat - Basics - Lost Judgment Guide

When the Triangle/Y appears in the center of the screen, press the appropriate button to trigger an EX action. You can also choose to conserve your EX by holding down L2/LT, which will cancel the action.

An EX action requires at least one charged segment of the gauge - to charge it, you need to attack enemies or perform other actions - Lost Judgment: Combat - Basics - Lost Judgment Guide

An EX action requires at least one charged segment of the gauge - to charge it, you need to attack enemies or perform other actions.

There are different EX actions that may only be performed when the right fighting style is chosen, when you have a certain weapon, or when an enemy is close enough to an interactive object. The object used in the EX action will be destroyed once the action concludes.

The list of available EX actions and their requirements can be found in Yagami's phone under Help > EX Actions. In addition to a brief description, a short video depicting the move is included.

EX Boost

The EX meter is located in the upper left corner of the screen, next to the health bar. The EX meter is charged by:

  1. Attacking enemies;
  2. Using EX-replenishing items;
  3. Taunting Enemies (R1/RT L3);
  4. Smoking - in designated areas;
  5. Drunken fighting (the meter recharges much faster then);
  6. Some skills used during combat make the EX gauge load faster.

You can find cigarettes and alcohol at Poppo stores. Restaurants also offer different types of drinks.

The ability to activate an EX Boost will appear once at least one segment of the EX gauge is filled - Lost Judgment: Combat - Basics - Lost Judgment Guide

The ability to activate an EX Boost will appear once at least one segment of the EX gauge is filled. In EX Boost mode, Yagami will gain in power and be able to use an array of powerful strikes and special EX actions. In this state, Yagami is less susceptible to stuns.

As EX boost is active, the EX gauge will slowly deplete. This process can be slowed down by purchasing appropriate skills. The EX Boost mode can be deactivated at any time e.g. to stop the EX gauge from depleting.

Status Ailments

Some enemy attacks can cause a specific ailment in addition to damage. These effects are temporary but can make the situation much more difficult, especially when fighting one of the more powerful opponents.

The following are the types of ailments:

  1. Agony - makes Yagami unable to evade attacks,
  2. Stun - makes Yagami unable to perform any action. To counter the ailment, you need to press X/A as qucikly as possible;
  3. Blind - makes Yagami unable to assume a fighting stance;
  4. Bleed - makes Yagami lose health over time. May be caused by sharp weapons or firearms;
  5. Burn - makes Yagami lose health over time.
