Moral choices
On this guide page, you may come across spoilers regarding the quest related to the elderly lady in the window.
In the demo of Lies of P, which has showed a little more than just the tutorial, there were two situations in which the player had the opportunity to choose between truth and lies. Although it is not entirely explained how much lying affects the gameplay, it can be noticed that moral choices may be crucial in the later stages of the game.
For example, After defeating the boss Parade Master, you have to get to the Hotel Krat. The only way to get inside is to lie that you are a human, otherwise you will not be let inside.
The second example is related to a task received from an elderly lady at the window. She will ask you to find her child. The problem is that the child turns out to actually be a doll, but the woman believes it is real.
If you lie, you will receive one extra reward (the Feel item), whereas if you say that the child is actually a puppet, you will only get a fragment of pure Ergo.
Each such moral choice also affects Pinocchio, however in the demo there are no explanations about how the lie and truth system works.
What happens when you lie in Lies of P
It should be remembered that there is not a single word in the game about how moral choices work. The following list is the author's own thoughts and interpretation regarding this mechanic.
The game talks a lot of about regular puppets being able to speak only the truth. As Geppetto's creation, Pinocchio is special because he has free will and can lie at will. It is mainly this aspect that distinguishes puppets from humans.
- There is a possibility that lying may have an impact on potential endings. Maybe, thanks to this lies, Pinocchio will become a human.
- Lying can be useful in terms of obtaining more and better items. An example is the task received from the elderly lady at the window.
- Potentially, your choices may also affect character statistics or skills.
All of this is not confirmed, however, and players will probably learn the truth about this mechanic once Lies of P gets released.
