Hitman 2: Story Missions - The Ark Society walkthrough Hitman 2 Guide, Walkthrough
Last update: 21 September 2021
On this page of our guide for Hitman 2 we have prepared a full walkthrough for all 6 Mission Stories available during The Ark Society on the Island of Sgail.
{ramkaniebieska}The elimination methods below are not the only ones available - only those resulting from completing the story missions. Other elimination techniques have been described in other sections of this chapter.{/ramkaniebieska}
A Phoenix from the Ashes
Target: Zoe Washington. You can sabotage the large Phoenix mechanism, and then, dressed as the master of the ceremony, invite Zoe to the show and burn her alive.
You learn about this mission from the pair talking to each other in the screenshot above - they are standing next to the upper courtyard where the ceremony of burning the large Phoenix effigy is planned.
Agent 47 has to get to the Back Stage located exactly beneath the Phoenix effigy. From the spot where you heard the conversation, approach the cliff. Watch out for two guards patrolling the area - you can use the tall grass to avoid detection. You can reach your destination by crossing a narrow ledge by the cliff - skip the first window and enter through the second one.
Wait for the guard to finish the conversation and leave the room leaving two custodians inside. Throw an object to the other side of the room and eliminate the first custodian who investigates it. The second custodian always has his back towards Agent 47 thus eliminating him is even simpler. Hide both bodies in the container.
Find the wrench and use it as indicated in the screenshot above. This way, you sabotage the hydraulic mechanism so that Zoe won't be able to free herself after the show starts.
Now, Agent 47 has to find the Master of Ceremonies. He can be found in the southern chamber of the chapel shown in the screenshot above. You can easily get there:
- Enter the side location next to the upper courtyard.
- Go to the adjacent crypt.
- Use the ladder inside the crypt.
- Agent 47 will now reach the monitoring room in the chapel.
- Pass the guards and sneak into the south chapel chamber. The doors are locked - use a lockpick or steal the key of a guard?
Apart from the Master of Ceremonies, there are two other people in this room. You can easily eliminate the enemies e.g. by turning the gramophone on. After someone approaches to turn it off, attack him and hide the body in the container. Beware, though, as the Master of Ceremonies tends to walk around the room and approaches the window every once in a while.
Put on the Master of Ceremonies Disguise. Make sure to hide all bodies and other items that might indicate you have eliminated anyone. If you skip this step, Zoe might stop in the chapel in the next part of the Story Mission deeming it impossible for you to finish.
In the chapel, you will find the Master of Ceremonies' Schedule and a laptop with the Effigy Memo from Zoe. You do not have to investigate them, though.
You have to reach the Effigy Stage - leave through the south door and turn east. Go downstairs to the upper courtyard. Pick up the torch and use it to light the Money Pit.
Don't move from there. You have to wait for Zoe Washington to get there (from the chapel) and stops to the right from the Effigy (as presented in the screenshot above). Turn towards her and press the interaction button to start the ceremony. You have to wait until she finishes her speech.
Go upstairs to get to the Effigy Stage again. Wait for Zoe to enter the Effigy and then light the circle around her using the torch. The Effigy will start burning and Zoe will be trapped inside thanks to what you did before with the mechanism. Do not worry - her body will not be found as the flames will make it impossible for anyone to see her corpse.
{ramkaniebieska}It is worth your effort to repeat this story mission without sabotaging the hydraulic mechanism. This will allow Zoe to get out of the effigy at the end of the ceremony and you will unlock the Greatest Show trophy.{/ramkaniebieska}
Final Club
Target: Zoe Washington. You can participate in the treasure hunt organized by the initiates. The reward for winning it is a meeting with Zoe in the dungeon.
You can learn about the ongoing treasure hunt when visiting the Patrons' Lounge - it is located on the first floor right next to the entrance to the lower courtyard.
You have to prepare well. Make sure you acquire:
- Initiate Disguise - it is best to attack an initiate in an area adjacent to the upper courtyard. This is described in the How to easily acquire your first disguise? section.
- Any 10 Commemorative Tokens. You can find them by the lit candles across the castle as well as on the corpses of eliminated initiates. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the How to acquire 10 Commemorative Tokens? section in this guide. You have to find 10 out of the 30 available tokens.
After meeting all the requirements you have to reach the Initiation Door - they have been marked in the screenshot above. It is a path connecting the lower and the upper courtyards. Knock on the door. After a guard opens it, give him 10 tokens and follow him to the Dungeon. This is a good moment to save the game.
Sit in an armchair and wait for Zoe Washington to arrive. The story mission will now end, but the interrogation itself is important, as it can end in two ways opening different paths towards eliminating Zoe.
The first option involves giving true answers, as follows:
- Are you the best in your field? - Answer Yes.
- Are you willing to break the law if required? - Answer Yes.
- Can you keep a cool head under pressure? - Answer Yes.
- Are you a reporter working for the liberal media? - Answer No.
After passing the test, follow Zoe Washington to the catacombs. Agent 47 will become a member of the Ark. Take the Ark Member Disguise off the wall. Zoe will invite you upstairs. It is best to attack the woman after reaching the staircase shown in the screenshot, as she is not accompanied by her personal bodyguard at that moment. Moreover, you can hide her body in a container.
The second option is to lie, as follows:
- Are you the best in your field? - Answer No.
- Are you a follower of our late founder, Janus? - Answer Yes.
- Do you have an ulterior motive for being here? - Answer No.
- Are you pretending to be someone you're not? - Answer No.
Consecutive lines will irritate Zoe and increase the tension. Do not worry about Agent 47 - as a result of the malfunction, it is Zoe who will get electrocuted at the end of this interrogation. Make sure to leave the site quickly in order not to be accused of contributing to her death.
It Belongs in a Museum
Target: Sophia Washington. You can steal a precious necklace from the Castle Museum and then dress as Blake Nathaniel to meet Sophia in her office.
It is best to start this story mission in one of the castle's main halls - the Museum on the third floor. It is best to reach it dressed as a Member of the Ark (or start the mission there provided you've reached a required mastery level).
You can listen to the people watching the exquisite necklace. Your first task is to steal this precious artifact.
The necklace is inside a glass cabinet with an alarm. Do not try breaking it, because you can turn off the security in two ways - the first one is to reach the laptop on the balcony on the fourth floor - as shown in the screenshot. By default, you will find a custodian and a guard there.
Investigate the adjacent room and sabotage the fuse box. The guard will go towards it giving you enough time to deal with the custodian and hide his body in the corner.
Hack into the laptop to turn the security off. You can leave the balcony and eliminate the guard at the same time (do not forget to hide his body in the same corner). Jump off the balcony.
ramkaniebieska}Occasionally Blake Nathaniel and Sophia Washington appear on the balcony. Do not allow them to spot you when you're hiding the bodies or hacking the laptop.{/ramkaniebieska}
The second option is a bit less subtle. Find the fire alarm switch and use it to turn on the alarm. The evacuation of the museum will start.
Now quickly reach the adjacent room with the stairs and investigate a small area nearby. In the location shown in the screenshot above, you will find the fuse box. Sabotage it to turn off the electricity in the Museum and turn the security systems off.
Regardless of the option you choose, you have to steal the Aztec Necklace. It's best to save the game before the theft attempt. Wait until everyone n the museum is facing another direction. You can also help yourself as follows:
- Use throwable object(s).
- Turn on the gramophone (one of the museum pieces).
- Turn off the museum lights (two switches behind the exhibit).
- Crouch upon reaching the showcase with the necklace.
Now, Agent 47 has to assume the identity of Nathaniel Blake - you will recognize him by his bright suit and a hat. If you chose the option of using the laptop on the balcony, wait for Blake to show up there. You can knock him out without taking any risk of being noted. Otherwise, follow him and distract him in one of the rooms or attack him on the staircase.
Dress as Nathaniel Blake and find Sophie Washington (Blake has the access to visit the top floors of the castle) and talk to her.
Follow Sophie to her office on the fifth floor. Upon reaching it, talk to her. She will tell all the guards to leave. This is the perfect opportunity to stand behind her and use the necklace as a garrotte. After murdering Sophie, hide her body.
{ramkaniebieska}If you decide to use the necklace to choke Zoe Washington as well, you will unlock the Mistaken Identity achievement.{/ramkaniebieska}
Last Honors
Target: Zoe Washington. You can find the lost ceremonial dagger, then wear burial robes and use them to take part the burial ceremony.
An opportunity to complete this mission appears after you reach the neighborhood of the stone circle in the northern part of the map on level 3 (you can sneak up to the area without having a disguise). You'll learn that the burial ceremony cannot commence without a ceremonial dagger which is an important part of the ceremony.
You can begin your search in the warehouse which is located in the western part of the map - this area is shown in the screenshot above.
Depending on the current disguise, you can access the warehouse in a few different ways. The easiest way leads to the neighboring landing pad. You can also enter the castle and proceed to the back area of the gallery. The corridor with the staircase contains a secret tunnel that you can utilize. Once you enter the tunnel, proceed to its other end and press the button.
47 has to find the artifact in one of the crates in the warehouse - a custodian outfit would work well in the current situation. The easiest way of getting such an outfit is to disable the generator found next to the secret tunnel. After a short while, one of the custodians will appear in the area. You can attack him, hide his body and take the disguise. Another requirement is having a crowbar. To get one, visit the southern room neighboring the main part of the warehouse.
Start opening the crates. Watch out for at least a single guard, who will be able to see through your disguise. The Burial Dagger is hidden in a random crate. Start by checking all the crates on the ground floor - if you still haven't found the artifact, use the stairs to visit the upper floor.
Now you need to get access to the morgue which holds Janus's body. Consider doubling back using the same way to get back to the stone circle, and then proceed north and use the lockpick to access the northern tower. If you are without a lockpick, investigate one of the walls to find a drain pipe and begin the climb.
The room is inhabited by a woman and three mercenaries. You need to eliminate all of the targets. You can do so easily by sabotaging the boiler and the fuse box, as well as using throwable objects. Try to clear the whole area.
You can now approach the Burial Robes - put them on. This is a good moment to save the game manually. There are a number of other challenges connected to the burial ceremony, and a save will enable you to complete them more easily.
Leave the tower and watch out for a single guard that patrols the area - wait for him to look the other way. Start climbing the wall to your left to find yourself in the stone circle. If needed, use the high grass to avoid detection.
Approach the harpist and touch her so she begins to play the harp. Quickly run up to the open casket and lie in it.
You don't need to perform any action for the next few minutes. You need to wait for the burial ceremony to begin. The members of the Ark will approach the casket to say their goodbyes to Janus.
Zoe Washington will approach the casket last. Your mission will become easier, as she will send off other members of the Ark. Wait for the attack icon to appear and press the button to kill her. Leave the casket and drag Zoe's body to the cliff to get rid of her easily.
Social Climbing
Target: Sophia Washington. You can learn of a trap that Sophia has laid for Constant. 47 can investigate the problem and deliver the investigation results to Constant, leading to its meeting with Sophia.
The starting location of the mission is difficult to access - it's a security room on level 5 of the castle. To access the room, get an architect or a mercenary disguise. The security room is protected by a card reader - you can steal an access card, use the electronic key hacker (reward for 7th mastery level of Isle of Sgail) or get through the window on the right side of the room. If you are attempting to access the window, use the ledge outside to get closer to the unlocked window.
Watch out for guards from the security room and investigate the laptop shown on screenshot 2. Hacking it will enable you to learn of Sophia Washington's plans. Use the opportunity to eliminate the guards in the security room, as you will be able to sabotage the surveillance equipment and have an easier time completing the next part of the mission.
Leave the security room and enter the nearby Hyperborea Showroom. You need to locate Sinclair. Wait for Diana to call him, and look for a person who will engage in a phone call. Don't worry if you weren't able to locate him instantly, as Diana will call him until you find the right person.
47 has to eliminate Sinclair. This is not an easy task, as he is in a public place. There are two ways of taking care of him. First variant involves returning to the security room and eliminating the Architect from the screenshot above. He is in range of a camera, so destroy it beforehand or make sure you've sabotaged the surveillance equipment.
Hide the body and wait for Sinclair to stop by one of the domes in the neighboring room. Use the laptop to disable the light in the dome. Sinclair should reach the area and you can take care of him easily.
Second variant involves poisoning Sinclair. From time to time, he visits a bar in the Architect's lounge (screenshot above). You can enter the nearby balcony and sabotage the fuse box. Once a waiter appears, eliminate him and wear Castle Staff Disguise. Put the rat poison in the glass that was left by Sinclair and follow him once he drinks it.
Regardless of your approach investigate the location where you've attacked Sinclair. Pick up the Poison Chip Blueprint. Moreover, put on the Architect outfit (e.g. Sinclair's clothes).
Make your way to Constant. Approach him and press the interaction button to show him the discovered blueprint. Follow Constant to the library. Once you're up there, initiate a second conversation to give him the blueprint.
Constant will now want to meet with Sophia Washington. You need to quickly ascend to the upper floor of the tower. You can sneak up there or e.g. get through the window and use the drain pipe. Once you reach the Constant's office hide in the neighboring bathroom. Wait for Constant and Sophia to appear in the location. You need to let them begin the conversation.
Once Constant walks away, Sophia will stay in the location where the conversation has took place. Quickly sneak behind her back and throw her off the wall.
Winds of Change
Target: Sophia Washington. You can assume the identity of Jebediah Block and take part in the conclave led by Sophia. This creates an opportunity for a one on one encounter.
This mission becomes available once you reach the (Old Oak Tree) on level 4, in the north-western part of the map. Once you reach the area, listen to a conversation between two waiters standing next to a well.
47 has to reach the Armory Roof shown in the screenshot above. The entrance to the roof is guarded by a mercenary - the best way of getting around him is to getting a mercenary disguise. A good way of getting this disguise can be found in the page Getting a first disguise.
Alternatively, you can investigate the area found left from the mercenary. You can use the drain pipe to climb to the roof - just make sure you won't get spotted during the climb.
The roof is inhabited by Jebediah Block and three mercenaries. You can eliminate two of them by sabotaging the generator and by using a throwable. Hide the bodies behind the smaller walls so they won't get detected. You should know that soon after the beginning of the mission, Constant will appear in the area to talk to Jebediah. It is best to wait for the meeting to end and attack Block then. Wear his outfit.
Use the opportunity to save the game manually. There is a number of other challenges connected to the conclave, and a save will enable you to complete them more easily
Find Sophia Washington and talk to her. Follow her to the room where the conclave is taking place.
Sit on the chair reserved for Jebediah Block and let Sophia make the speech. Soon, a vote will take place - you need to choose Nay (Vote Against Sophia - bottom left option).
Sophia will want to talk to you in private. Follow her to the Penthouse on level 8. Begin another conversation. You need to wait for the Sophia to call off her bodyguards and place herself before the sarcophagus. Push her into the sarcophagus and close it to kill her. Thanks to the casket, you don't need to worry about hiding the body.
