On this page of the Hitman 2 guide we've included descriptions of all 7 mission stories available during playing the Another Life mission in Whittlecreek Creek, USA. The missions discussed here (with the exception of one - Breadcrumb Trail) allow you to approach selected targets with the intention of assassinating them.
Not all available assassination methods are presented here, only those that are used in story missions. Other methods are described on later pages of the chapter.
An Apple a Day
Target: Janus. You can take over the identity of the male nurse who has a scheduled visit to Janus to check the health of the old man.
For the purpose of starting this story mission, reach the southern shed - the one that is located near the river - it is shown in the picture 1.
You will find the nurse right next to the shed. You have to distract his attention, for which you can, for example, use the bell in a bicycle that is left near the shed. After the nurse goes into a more secluded place, disable or kill him. Put his body into the shed, put it in a container and put on the nurse's disguise. Take the opportunity to throw away all weapons and other prohibited items from the Agent's 47 inventory.
Get to Janus' residence and talk to the bodyguard at the door. You have to allow him to search you. Ring the doorbell - Janus or one of his people will open it. Go upstairs, turn right and then turn left to find yourself in Janus' bedroom.
Janus' personal bodyguard will appear in the bedroom - Gunther Mueller. He'll invite you to talk in private. Before you leave the bedroom, it's a good idea to save the game.
Gunther is very suspicious and will want to explore the identity of the new nurse. You have 5 minutes to complete the story mission, and it's a good idea to hurry, because in addition to the assassination of Janus, you should also manage a few other things, which are described below, within the allocated time limit.
There are two main ways to get out of the office. If you have a lockpick with you, open the door, but watch out for the guard in the corridor by the stairs. If you don't have it, find a rope in the office. Pulling it will pull down a ladder. After using the ladder, Agent 47 will be in the attic. Go out the window to climb to the roof. Jump down to a lower level and reach the newly-opened shutter. Going through it will allow you to get back to the first floor of the building. Walk through the northern rooms of the building to return to Janus.
Regardless of which variant you chose, talk to Janus to start following Agent 47. You have to go with him to the bathroom, which also serves as a rehabilitation room (again go through the same unattended room - the destination is the north-western room on the first floor). Wait for Janus to lie on the bed. Start the test and press the button to suffocate him with the pillow.
Finally, you have to get out of the building. The best way is to go through the window and jump to the ground.
- If you don't perform any additional steps, Gunther will raise the alarm after 5 minutes have elapsed. Agent 47 will be discovered and the enemies will hunt him.
- The alternative is to eliminate Gunther. You can get to the back door to the basement for this purpose. Use the lockpick to break into the basement and kill Gunther, who will be standing at the computer (from here you can also sabotage the surveillance system on the entire map).
Breadcrumb Trail
Target: No one. This is an unusual story mission, because it's not directly related to the assassination of any of the targets. However, you can get clues that are also required to complete the episode (completing this particular story mission is fully optional and you can also find the clues yourself).
As soon as you start the game, take care of this story mission. If you wait too long, the package will be delivered, and as a result, the entire story mission will be cancelled.
In order to start this story mission, you need to find a local postman. By default, he should have a conversation in the northern part of the map, i.e. at the Mapletree Lane. If he is not there, follow the sidewalk until you find him. After you overhear the conversation, talk to the postman and offer help in delivering a package.
The shipment is to be delivered to Batty residence - it's on the eastern side of the map and is adjacent to Nolan Cassidy's household. You'll recognize the building by the fact that it is sealed with tape on all sides due to the sterilization work carried out inside. Insert the package into the mailbox (picture above) and ring the doorbell.
James Batty will move towards the entrance to his residence and it will take him some time to get there. At the same time, you have to get to the shed in his garden. Jump over the fence (preferably somewhere out of view, e.g. from the construction site). Get to the shed and enter through the window. Find the lawsuit documents shown in the picture. Leave the residence and listen to the commentary to get the another task.
The next step is breaking into Nolan Cassidy's residence. The best way to get inside the building is through an open garage. After getting inside, it's worth closing the garage door behind you (the button on the wall).
Turn on the generator in the garage, so that someone will come here to turn it off. Hide take down whoever comes. Put on Cassidy's bodyguard disguise (or Spencer Green's if he appeared in the garage).
Go to the kitchen on the ground floor, i.e. to the room where the surveillance has been set up (you can optionally sabotage it and turn off all cameras on the map). The object you are looking for is the surveillance tape shown in the picture - it lies on the kitchen table.
Unfortunately, simply taking the tape doesn't solve the problem, because you have to listen to it. Go to the Lewinsky residence on the opposite side of the street.
Jump over the fence to find yourself at the back of the residence. There are three opponents in this area. If you use Cassidy's bodyguard uniform, you don't have to worry about them. Otherwise, use high-growing plants to avoid detection. You must reach the scaffolding shown in the picture. Go up the ladder to the top.
Go through the window. Once you're in an empty room, find the rope (picture 1). Pulling it will pull down the ladder leading to the attic. You'll find a tape recorder in the attic. Put on the previously found tape and listen to the recording to get the last required clue.
You can leave the house (watch out for the guards on the way back) and listen to a new comment in the meantime.
The next part of the story mission is to break into Janus's residence to search it. It is best to use the secret tunnel that connects this building with the neighboring Griswold residence. The Griswolds' house is show in the picture - it's north of the gazebo with a statue and south of Janus' house. Jump over the fence to find yourself in the garden and, avoiding detection, reach the stairs to the basement. Break into it with the help of the lockpick or the crowbar.
Once you're in the Griswolds' basement, open the nearest door located on the left side - again you have to help yourself with the lockpick or the crowbar. Get to the bookshelves shown in the picture. You can pull one of them and unlock the entrance to the secret tunnel. Go through the tunnel and get to the door to the basement of Janus residence. Use the control panel to open the door.
In the basement of Janus household there is a single guard, who preferably should be dealt with. After you eliminate him in any way you like, search the area to the right. You need to examine an old photograph. This way you'll get enough clues and you'll complete the story mission.
Charbroiled
Target: Nolan Cassidy. You can play the role of a waiter at a party in the garden of the Wilson residence and draw in Nolan Cassidy.
This story mission will become known to you from listening to a talking couple in front of the entrance to the Wilson residence, the house, in the garden of which the party takes place. The first step is to get a propane flask to be installed in the barbecue grill.
You can find a flask in several places on the map. The game will suggest visiting the neighboring Griswold residence. You can jump over the fence, but don't be seen by the guards in the yard. You'll find a propane flask next to the grill (picture above).
Return to the Wilson residence with the flask. You have to install it in the grill, where one of the waiters stands. You can do it even if you don't have any disguise.
The next step is to dress up as a waiter. Enter the Wilson's house and go upstairs. You'll find a waiter in one of the rooms - incapacitate or kill him and put on a waiter's disguise. You must also get a rat poison, which is very easy - just visit the garage of the Wilson residence.
You can make it easier for you to start the story mission if you've already reached least level 14 of mastery in Whittlecreek Creek. Agent 47 can then start the mission immediately disguised as a waiter. There is no need to attack the person on the first floor.
Return to the garden and position yourself in the spot where the food is served. More guests should approach the stand - invite each of them to taste the offered food. You have to invite all interested people (after some time, the guests will stop approaching Agent 47).
Wait for Nolan Cassidy to become interested in the party and until he drops by - it may take from several seconds to even a few minutes. In the meantime, poison the food using the previously obtained rat poison. After Cassidy approaches the catering spot, invite him to taste the food.
Nolan Cassidy will go to the bathroom in the Wilson residence. Follow him. It's best to drown him when he vomits, but you can also use a garrote or shoot him. Hide Cassidy's body in the bathroom closet.
An alternative variant is to use lethal poison. However, this is not a recommended method, because Cassidy's death in a public place will cause quite a stir.
House for Sale
Target: Nolan Cassidy. You can take over the identity of an estate agent and meet Nolan to present him a house that has been put up for sale.
This story mission begins at the muffin stand in the northern part of the map. Here you will find an estate agent talking to a muffin seller. You must first take over the identity of the latter. Find a radio by the bushes (picture above) and turn it on. After the seller appears, attack him and hide his body in the bushes. You can turn off the radio and put on a seller's disguise.
The next step is to get a rat poison. You can take your own poison with you on a mission, but you might as well visit the garage of the Wilson residence, where you can get a poison without any problems.
Return to the stand and pick up a blueberry muffin. Put it on the tray shown in the picture, where free samples are given away, and immediately use the rat poison on it.
The estate agent will come to the sample stand and eat the muffin. The man will go to the shed in the park to start vomiting. It's the perfect place to attack him. Hide his body in the shed. Put on the estate agent disguise and find the key to the Schmidt residence on the ground.
Find Nolan Cassidy - if he is at home, it's not worth approaching him, risking that Agent 47 is searched or caught in the cameras. Talk to Nolan and go to the Schmidt residence. It's on the same street as Nolan's house - go south and become find a house put up for sale.
If you have taken the key from the estate agent, you can open the entrance door immediately. The spare key to the Schmidt residence is in the pot next to the door.
Once you enter the house, you have two options:
- Show Nolan around the entire house - this will allow you to complete the extra achievement Extensive Presentation. After entering each room, start a new conversation. On the ground floor you can show him living room, kitchen, garage and bathroom. On the first floor, the most problematic is the main bedroom (picture above), because it is closed. "Overtake" Nolan and break into it with the lockpick. In addition, show Nolan the main corridor (staircase area), smaller bedroom, office, bathroom and attic (pull the rope, climb up the ladder, turn to Nolan and initiate a conversation).
- Get straight to the entrance to the basement of the Schmidt house. Use the key to the house to open the door.
Talk to Nolan again when you are in the basement. Agent 47 will inform him that a vault is located here. Approach it, take the vault keycard and use it on the reader to open the vault. Allow Nolan to enter the code and turn off the lasers in the vault. After the mission target is inside, use the same panel. Turn on the laser trap to kill Nolan.
Don't forget about Cassidy's bodyguard. He's certainly heard the explosion - try to take him out before he finds Nolan's corpse.
No Smoking Area
Target: Janus. You can use the fact that Janus is a chain smoker and after acquiring a pack of cigarettes, leave it in view in his bedroom.
You can learn about Janus's smoking addiction from the disguised guards who guard the courtyard of the Griswold residence, the house adjacent to Janus' house. A pack of cigarettes can be found in the bushes at the courtyard - its locations is shown on the attached pictures.
There is also an alternative way to get the cigarettes. If you attack Janus' personal bodyguard - Gunther Mueller - you'll find it on his body.
Now sneak into the Janus' house (you can jump over the fence, for example). It is a good idea to get a disguise from one of Janus's bodyguards, for example, by switching on the generator in the garage. However, even in disguise, watch out for individual opponents who can recognize Agent 47. This includes a guard patrolling the corridor on the first floor.
Before you do anything, visit the small shed in the garden. Pick up a monkey wrench, you'll it need soon. Now get to Janus' bedroom on the first floor. Put the cigarettes on the table shown in the picture (in place of an empty package).
There is one more step to do. Go to the oxygen tank and use the monkey wrench on it to damage it. All you have to do no, is to wait for Janus to come to the bedroom, spot the cigarettes and light one. He will be killed by the following explosion. This action will alert the whole area, so it's worth to leave the house.
In the same place where you sabotage the oxygen tank, you can commit a different assassination - apply the lethal poison to the oxygen mask. Killing Janus in this way unlocks one of the challenges.
Pest Control
Target: Nolan Cassidy. You can dress up as an exterminator, and spray a sedative while Nolan is at home.
You can find out about the sterilization from the workers standing in front of the construction site in the south-eastern part of the map. Sneak up on the construction site and avoid detection, because it's a restricted zone. Once there. locate the green container shown in the picture - open it with the lockpick or the crowbar. Inside this container you'll find some insecticide.
You must now get an outfit. Reach the entrance to the Batty residence. There is a van parked here and an exterminator can be found next to it. Attack him when there is nobody else nearby (check the pavement!) and hide his body in the bushes. Put on the exterminator disguise.
Alternatively, you can start the mission disguised as an exterminator. This outfit is a reward for reaching level 7 mastery in Whittlecreek Creek.
Get to the back of a neighboring house, Cassidy residence - you can jump over the fence or use the lockpick on the gate. As an exterminator, you have the right to stay in the back of Cassidy residence. You don't have to sneak. Get to the fumigation machine and pour the insecticide you've acquired. Don't switch on the machine yet!
This story mission assumes the use of insecticide, but you can also use the rat poison or lethal poison in other playthrough. The latter option will allows you to unlock a separate challenge related to Nolan's assassination.
The game will suggest a way to "call" Nolan to his residence. You must to get to the gun room on the first floor of the building. It's best to find a gutter at the back of the residence and use it to climb on the lower roof (watch out for cameras and at least one guard!). Go to the open armory window, but doublecheck if you can safely go inside. In a room with a large number of weapons, take an interest in the showcase shown in the picture. Breaking it will turn on the alarm. QUICKLY escape through the window and jump down.
Instead of breaking the glass showcase, you can, for example, turn on the alarm (the switch is in the living room on the ground floor) or wait until Nolan returns to his home.
After Nolan Cassidy enters/runs into his home, activate the fumigation machine. All persons inside the residence (and any new ones that enter it) will lose consciousness. Now you can go back inside - the mask of the exterminator's uniform will protect Agent 47. Locate the unconscious Nolan and kill him in any way you like (gun, breaking his neck, etc.).
Whack-A-Mole
Target: Janus. You can take over the gardener's identity and offer help in solving the mole problem at Janus residence. Agent 47 can set an explosive charge in the garden.
You can learn about this story mission near the West residence. The gardener will argue with the local law keepers about taking away the demolition charge, with which he wanted to deal with the mole. The explosive will be moved to the place where the roadworks are carried out.
Follow the gardener to his van. Attack him when you are alone. Hide his body in the bushes. Get the key to Janus residence and a gardener disguise.
Get to the roadworks site now - the north-west corner of the map. Sneak into the fenced area from the north-east side. The Remote CX Demo Block is stored in a large box next to a police SUV. Steal it and leave the place.
Go to Janus residence and use the key to open the gate at the back of the residence. Watch out for at least one guard who can recognize Agent 47 even in disguise. Ask Janus' bodyguard about the mole problem. He will lead the character to the garden.
Start preparing to assassinate Janus by placing the explosive in a mole hole in the garden.
There are five other mole holes in the area. Each of them should be plugged. You can place any object you like in them - tools, balls, cookies or even the main character's gun.
Report to the guard after all holes have been plugged. At the same time, select the detonator that appeared in the Agent 47 inventory when he set the charge. Wait until Janus comes to the back of his home AND approaches the hole with the remote charge. Blow him sky high and leave the place quickly, as Janus' death will alert all his bodyguards.
