On this page of the guide to the game Hades, you will find key information about Tartarus. We included information on what types of chambers appear in Tartarus, what unique threats and attractions await Zagreus there, and requirements for completing Tartarus and advancing to the next biome.
General information about Tartarus
Tartarus is the first of the four main biomes of the game Hades. The first time you get to Tartarus is when starting a new campaign. In Tartarus, you will also always start every next journey - you get to this location directly from the House of Hades (the safe hub of the game world).
The game does not allow you to skip Tartarus, for example, to get to Asphodel earlier. You always have to go through a dozen random chambers of this land and defeat its boss. Fortunately, the chances are that in subsequent games, you will discover or gain something new. As a result, you should not be bothered by the high repeatability of the game.
Unique attractions and dangers of Tartarus
In Tartarus, all common types of chambers you will visit throughout the game appear. We described the most important ones on a separate page, Door symbols - what do they mean? It is recommended to plan the character development from the very beginning of the game and do not miss the opportunity to visit the rooms with the most useful items.
In Tartarus, you can also meet Sisyphus, who is a unique NPC of this biome. From Sisyphus, you can always take one of three valuable items - gold, Darkness, or Charon's Obole.
Opponents from Tartarus shouldn't cause you much trouble. Some exceptions are:
- Wretched Lout and Wretched Thug - these are larger enemies who can unexpectedly unleash powerful attacks. Fighting them, use ranged attacks and skillful dodges.
- Wretched Pest - these are small flying creatures that scatter bombs around the area. It is best to deal with them at the very beginning of the fight.
- Wringer - these are flying hands that can capture and temporarily imprison Zagreus, exposing him to further attacks. Jump to the side when you see the Wringer is going to attack you.
In Tartarus, you can find mini-bosses:
- Doomstone is a levitating object that shoots violet beams - you can avoid them with a dash or destroy objects at the other ends of the ray.
- Inferno Bomber is an opponent who throws bombs at Zagreus. Dashing is the key to survival. The Bomber will also explode at the moment of death.
- Wretched sneak is a powerful monster that can attack in close or ranged combat and call for reinforcements. It's best to focus your attacks on him.
The traps in Tartarus are mainly pressure plates, which can have various effects: activate spikes from the floor or nearby turrets firing missiles. You can completely bypass the pressure plates or run on them using a dash to avoid getting any damage.
In the described biome, there are also explosive containers that go off when touched - for example, when you or opponents hit them with a hand-to-hand or ranged attack. Escape from the explosion range using a dash. You can also look for opportunities to hit the containers when some enemies are in their range.
Bosses in Tartarus
The default final boss of Tartarus is Megaera. In the later phase of the campaign, her sisters may appear instead. The general course of the fight is similar for all sisters, with each having some of theirs attacks. The shape of the battle arena and the types of minor opponents that appear in the arena can change to some extend. A description of the boss battles of Tartarus, you will find in a separate chapter, Bosses, of our guide.
Defeated Megaera and her sisters can leave behind a valuable Titan Blood or a large amount of darkness. Defeating the boss of Tartarus unlocks the passage to Asphodel. On the way from Tartarus to Asphodel, you will be able to heal, change active keepsakes, sell unnecessary items and make purchases in the store.
