On this page of the guide to the game Hades, you will find key information about Asphodel. We included information on what types of chambers appear in Asphodel, what unique threats and attractions await Zagreus there, and requirements for completing Asphodel and advancing to the next biome.
General information about Asphodel
Asphodel is the second of the four main biomes of the game Hades. This biome is reached after defeating one of the Furies in the last chamber of Tartarus.
The game does not allow you to skip Asphodel, for example, to get to Elysium earlier. You always have to go through a dozen random chambers of this land and defeat its boss. Fortunately, the chances are that in subsequent games, you will discover or gain something new. As a result, you should not be bothered by the high repeatability of the game.
Unique attractions and hazards of Asphodel
In Asphodel, you go to the next chambers moving on floating platforms, while the general rules are the same -you have to defeat the opponents (if they appear in a given area) and choose the exit based on the symbols. Stick to the chosen development path of the character.
One of the more difficult battles in Asphodel can take place on a floating barge. The main difficulty of any such battle is a very limited battle arena, and this can be especially problematic if your character uses ranged weapons. Try to detonate traps at the right moments, draw opponents to one end of the barge and run to the opposite end so that you can attack them for some time without risking a close combat fight.
In Asphodel, you can also meet Eurydice who is the unique NPC of this biome. From Eurydice, you can receive one of 3 items associated with keepsakes - it can increase the rarity or experience level of your keepsakes or provide you with rarer gifts in the future.
During battles with ordinary opponents from Asphodel, you should be especially careful with the following:
- Wave Maker - according to the name, they generate shock waves more difficult to avoid than standard missiles. Moreover, if they hit you, they can push you into lava. During battles, kill those first.
- Burn Flinger - these opponents throw grenades, which can be troublesome to avoid and make it even more difficult for you to attack other enemies simultaneously.
- Gorgon - these monsters shoot projectiles, which turn Zagreus into stone (example in the picture above). Push dash button to get free.
In Asphodel, you can also run into new mini-bosses:
- Megagorgon and Skull Crusher are mini-bosses who fight together. Focus on eliminating the Megagorgon first while avoiding projectiles (they can turn Zagreus into stone) and a large shadow on the ground, which indicates where Skull Crusher will land. Keep moving so you don't get crushed by the boss.
- Spreader is an elite opponent who fires off spread attacks. Get close to it and attack, avoiding missiles or destroying them with your weapons.
- Voidstone resembles a blue levitating gemstone, and he can shield the surrounding opponents. This makes eliminating Voidstone a priority. Only after dealing with him, return to attacking ordinary enemies.
You won't find common traps in Asphodel. Instead, you have to pay attention to magma. It doesn't immediately deal damage when you touch it, but after about 1 second, you gradually will begin to lose health points. Aim your attacks well, not to land into the lava after a charge, and also, if possible, don't allow enemies to push Zagreus. You can bypass the magma using a dash and reach the next safe islets.
In the described biome, there are also explosive containers that go off when touched - for example, when you or opponents hit them with a hand-to-hand or ranged attack. Escape from the explosion range using a dash. You can also look for opportunities to hit the containers when some enemies are in their range.
Boss in Asphodel
The final boss of Asphodel is always the Lernean Bone Hydra. However, in the subsequent confrontations with Hydra, she may have slightly different attacks, and other weaker enemies can also appear. Hydra is accompanied by smaller snakes, which appear in two moments of the fight (the boss then becomes temporarily invulnerable), and their attacks can be different. A description of the boss battles of Asphodel, you will find in a separate chapter, Bosses, of our guide.
Defeated Hydra can leave behind valuable Diamonds, or it can be a large amount of darkness. Defeating the boss of Tartarus unlocks the passage to Elysium. On the way from Asphodel to Elysium, you will be able to heal, change active keepsakes, sell unnecessary items and make purchases in the store.
