Hades: Megaera, Alecto and Tisiphone - bosses in Tartarus, how to defeat Hades guide, tips

This page of the Hades game guide contains descriptions of the battles with the possible bosses of the Tartarus biome - these are the Fury sisters named Megajra, Alekto and Tyzyfone.

Last update: 31 August 2021

On this page of the Hades game guide you will find a walkthrough of the bosses you will face in Tartarus. You will need to defeat one of the three Fury Sisters - Megaera, Alecto or Tisiphone. This guide contains information on the main features of the battle, how to damage and avoid the sisters' attacks, and the unique attacks and abilities available to Megaera, Alecto and Tisiphone.

Bosses in the Tartarus biome - general information

The battle against the boss in the Tartarus biome occurs after you go through 13 randomly generated chambers and reach chamber number 14 (this number might appear in the upper right corner if you open the boons menu, for example). In most trials, before entering the battle arena, you will probably visit Charon's shop and it's a good idea to heal your character and purchase items that will increase your chances of winning. We described the Tartarus biome in more detail in a separate chapter of the guide.

This battle requires you to defeat one of the Fury Sisters. During your first few attempts, you will always face Megaera, but once you've been killed enough times, the other sisters will start showing up - Alecto and Tisiphone. You have no control over which sister appears. The fights against each sister share similar features and each of them also has her own attacks and skills. We have described them in the following paragraphs.

Important note - our boss fight guide mainly focuses on listing the sisters' attacks and providing general tactics to use during the fight. It's impossible to post a step-by-step description of how to defeat bosses in Tartarus, because the game is highly randomised and each encounter is at least somewhat unique. This is affected by factors such as weapon choice, the boons and upgrades that you found or purchased, the weapon aspects and abilities you unlocked, and the length of your health bar and regeneration ability.

Megaera

Megaera is one of the three Fury Sisters. You will always encounter her during your first few runs through Tartarus. She can also randomly appear later in the game instead of Alecto or Tisiphone.

The key threats all three sisters share are:

  1. Pressure plates with spikes in the arena - These can appear alone or in groups and it is easy to miss them in the heat of battle. Each time you touch the spikes, you will lose health. Avoid the plates or dash across them. It is worth noting that if you have the right skills, then you can try to push the boss onto the spikes.
  2. Charging at you - you can anticipate this attack when the given sister crouches for a while. You will have enough time to jump to the side. Regardless of the type of weapon you carry, this is also a good time to counterattack and attack the sister. Aim at her back as much as possible so she'll take more damage.

Over the course of the fight, random regular opponents might occasionally appear on the arena. You can try to avoid them and focus on fighting the main boss, but they can cause you a lot of trouble, especially the enemies using ranged attacks. It's worth spending some time to deal with this problem, but remember not to give the sister an easy opportunity to attack Zagreus.

When you try to damage the sisters in melee combat, you can expect them to counter with a spinning attack. This attack has a tell and you should take the opportunity to dash away from its area of effect. This problem is less serious if you are mainly facing the boss at a distance, based on the weapon you've selected.

All sisters use different types of ranged attacks. You can react to them in different ways based on your positioning and especially your chosen weapon type. The most effective may be the Shield of Chaos, which is able to block these types of attacks, but you can also hit the projectiles with your weapon, reflect them or, as a last resort, dash between them. Cover is available on the arena, but there is a good chance that it will quickly be destroyed.

In the next stage of the battle, Megaera will begin using area attacks indicated by circles on the ground. You need to move away from them quickly to avoid getting damaged. The best option is of course to dash away, and if one dash is not enough, then press the dash button again. Continue to run until the boss finishes this series of attacks.

Alecto

Alecto is one of the three Fury Sisters. You won't start encountering her until you've faced Megaera enough times. You might randomly have to face her instead of Megaera or Tisiphone.

Alecto's basic attacks are very similar to Megaera's, which means that she can charge at you, use spinning attacks in melee and shoot a series of projectiles that you can block, reflect or dodge by staying in motion.

You can also attack this sister in the same way as Megaera. The ideal time to attack her is after one of her stronger attacks, such as the charge. Remember to backstab her whenever possible.

This opponent can release rotating blades during the fight. When this happens, it's best to stay far away from them and wait until they stop working. You can also try to predict their route in advance.

Alecto's rage bar can be seen on the screen under her health bar. Once it fills up completely, Alecto will go on a rampage. The screen will then turn red and the sister's attacks will gain intensity and strength. Avoid Alecto by running around the arena and wait until she stops raging and returns to her "normal" state.

The battles against Megaera and Alecto share the following features:

  1. traps - avoid them, dash across them and look for potential opportunities to push Alecto into them,
  2. area attacks used by the boss - run away from the circles that appear on the ground,
  3. spawning of random regular enemies - eliminate only those who pose a greater threat or significantly interfere in the battle.

Tisiphone

Tisiphone is one of the three Fury Sisters. You won't start encountering her until you've faced Megaera enough times. You might randomly have to face her instead of Megaera or Alecto.

Tisiphone's basic attacks are very similar to Megaera's, which means that she can charge at you (she will additionally shoot projectiles to the sides - avoid them!) and use spinning attacks in melee.

You can also attack this sister in the same way as Megaera. The ideal time to attack her is after one of her stronger attacks, such as the charge. Remember to backstab her whenever possible.

Tisiphone may use a dangerous ranged attack in a straight line. You have to be ready to react quickly, because it's more difficult to avoid than the sisters' charges, to which you should be used to by now. Additionally, if hit, Zagreus might become stunned for a short while.

Every once in a while, the sister shoots out projectiles in the shape of a vortex, making them rather difficult to avoid. If you don't have the ability to block or destroy moving projectiles, then focus on well-timed dashes and hiding behind any cover that hasn't been destroyed yet.

Each time Tisiphone takes enough damage, the screen will turn black for a while and the size of the arena will decrease. As a result, you will need to focus on dashing more often and not getting backed into a corner. In addition, you will need to dodge her bombings by dashing sideways at the right time. These attacks are a little easier to dodge as they don't "chase" Zagreus, instead they target predetermined location and you'll have a few moments to move to a safe part of the arena.
