Side Missions | San Mateo Walkthrough Ghost Recon: Wildlands Guide

Last update: 26 January 2018

Side missions are not related to the storyline. You need to complete them to improve your character's skills and upgrade abilities of your squad. An additional reward is unlocking and upgrading support - Ghost Recon squad can receive it from the rebels.

Stealing an aerial vehicle

One of the side missions requires you to steal an aerial vehicle and land it on an airport controlled by the rebels. Depending on the battlefield, this can be a plane or a chopper. Both tasks will not differ from one another.

Weapons and gadgets

Before you enter the airport, it's best to prepare an assault rifle with a silencer and a sniper rifle (also with a silencer). This way you will be able to eliminate enemies quietly, regardless of the distance.

The list of useful gadgets includes: sabotage, a signal pistol and a blank drone. These gadgets will let you divide large group of enemies and take them out with sync shots.

Tactics

Start by marking your enemies. It's crucial that you don't get detected. Otherwise, one of the enemies will destroy the vehicle or fly away. Remember to check the airport and the surrounding area. Use the drone to mark enemies, until there are only red dots left on the mini map (no orange zone).

Eliminate as many opponents as possible when marking them for sync shots. If there are too many soldiers in one group, use one of the gadgets to make them split up and search the area.

In certain missions, enemies will be scattered in such a way, that you won't have to kill anyone to steal the vehicle and remain unnoticed.

Engage into close combat when there are five or less enemies left, and they are near the vehicle. Just divide them into two groups. The first one would consist of solider located close to each other - you can eliminate them with a single ammo clip. The other group can be executed with a sync shot. Keep in mind that your shot will trigger the sync shot. Remove the silencer and get as close to enemies and the vehicle. Kill them as quickly as possible, and get into the vehicle.

Now all you need to do is take the vehicle to the marked location. You should fly low, near the ground, and avoid passing over enemy bases - these have surface-to-air missiles.

Stop the convoy

Your task is to destroy enemy truck and mark supplies located inside. Destroying the vehicle shouldn't be too hard but the fact that you need to come close to the truck makes it more difficult.

Weapons and gadgets

After you stop the convoy, you will engage in a short fight with the guards, and sometimes with a chopper as well. In order to destroy the chopper, take the machine gun. Your secondary weapon should be any rifle that you like to use. Just make sure that it's a weapon with a large ammo clip, such as AK-47 (80 rounds). Don't even bother to use the silencer.

A gadget that can be very useful is the C4 charge. Take at least three.

Mines are not very useful for these missions, as they can be triggered by civilians or the first vehicle that touches it.

Tactics

The quickest way to complete the mission is to use C4.

Use the map to determine which way the convoy is heading. It's much easier if the convoy is coming your way. However, if it does not, you need to overtake the convoy and prepare an ambush.

Plant three C4 charges (about 10 meters from one another). This way you will destroy all three vehicles. Just detonate your charges at the right time. If the convoy was escorted by a chopper, use your machine gun and hit it hard. You will be more effective if you developed destroying vehicles.

Now approach the damaged truck and mark the supplies.

Deactivate the antennas

Your objective is to get from one antenna to another, under a specific time limit, and deactivate it.

During these missions you may come across some enemies by the antenna but the main difficulty is the time limit. However, if you come across any enemies near the first antenna, make sure to eliminate them before you deactivate the antenna.

Now you need to reach the other antenna and deactivate it before the time runs out. There is always a car near the starting point - you can use it to complete the mission.

In order to reach the second antenna on time, you need to drive through wilderness. Your GPS will show you the way on your mini map. However, the presented route is always longer, and it's barely possible to take the road and successfully complete the mission.

Hacking the transmitters

You will need to infiltrate a network station and hack into a computer before the time runs out.

Weapons and gadgets

You should take the assault rifle with you. It has a large ammo clip, thus you won't waste precious time on reloading your weapon. You should also take a shotgun, because you will face enemies in closed environment.

Here are some useful gadgets: frag and flash grenades. Frag grenades can eliminate several enemies at once, while flash grenades will blind your opponents, and make it very easy to shoot them.

Tactics

Before the mission starts, you can select the door that you will detonate and use to enter the building. Always choose the one on the upper floor, as the way to your target will be shorter.

If you have your flash grenades, throw one of them inside. Now enter the building and eliminate all enemies that you come across. Try not to waste more than 5 bullets per soldier. Spend all the time to reach the transmitter. Dying would be the worst scenario, as your allies may not make it on time to reanimate you.

Interrogation

Your task is to reach a VIP and interrogate him - Side Missions | San Mateo Walkthrough - San Mateo - Tom Clancys Ghost Recon: Wildlands Game Guide

Your task is to reach a VIP and interrogate him.

Weapons and gadgets

Before entering the area, prepare an assault rifle with a silencer. It's perfect for taking out bad guys located far away or nearby.

The list of useful gadgets includes: sabotage, a signal pistol and a blank drone. These gadgets will let you divide large group of enemies and take them out with sync shots.

Tactics

Some of your enemies will be in the open field, while others will remain hidden in the buildings. Use your drone and sync shots to kill as many as possible. Now sneak up towards your target. You need to be careful, because if they detect you, the person you are supposed to interrogate will fire at you, and you won't be able to fire back (killing the target will result in failing your mission).

Defending the transmitter

You need to defend a given position, against incoming waves of enemy soldiers. These may include infantry, cars, or even choppers.

Weapons and gadgets

Your weapons will depend on the fact whether your enemy uses choppers or not. If you need to eliminate some choppers, prepare a machine gun and an assault rifle without a silencer. If you know that there will be no enemy choppers involved, switch the machine gun to any other rifle that you are good at.

The most import gadgets that you will use to defend the transmitter are mines and C4 charges. You can also take some frag grenades.

Tactics

Place the mines

Before the mission actually starts, plan your mines across the entire area. Keep in mind that they will be triggered by cars or infantry. In order to prepare the battlefield properly, you will have to get additional mines from the ammo crate several times. Plant some C4 as well.

Now activate the transmitter and wait for enemies to arrive. Stand right next to the place you are supposed to protect. Constantly monitor the mini map to check the direction the enemies are coming from. If you can see them on the mini map but they take cover, throw some frag grenades at them.

Pay attention to the direction of enemy fire. At certain moments, you will have to shield the transmitter with your own body.

  1. If a chopper arrives, make it your priority and eliminate it with your machine gun.
  2. If you have some time between incoming waves, plant some additional explosives.
